[Lens refilling].

Cataract surgery has developed into a very safe and highly reproducible procedure but the ultimate goal to also restore physiological accommodation has not yet been achieved. A variety of accommodative intraocular lenses (IOLs) and surgical techniques have been suggested to cure presbyopia but all showed only poor accommodative effects by objective measurements. Complete lens refilling with flexible polymers might be an interesting alternative. Recent investigations on accommodation and presbyopia have given support to the lens refilling method. After development of suitable surgical technique

Efficacy of topical 0.05% cyclosporine A and 0.1% sodium hyaluronate in post-refractive surgery chronic dry eye patients with ocular pain.

BACKGROUND: The management of post-refractive surgery dry eye disease (DED) can be challenging in clinical practice, and patients usually show an incomplete response to traditional artificial tears, especially when it is complicated with ocular pain. Therefore, we aim to investigate the efficacy of combined topical 0.05% cyclosporine A and 0.1% sodium hyaluronate treatment in post-refractive surgery DED patients with ocular pain unresponsive to traditional artificial tears. METHODS: We enrolled 30 patients with post-refractive surgery DED with ocular pain who were unresponsive to traditional

Corneal sub-basal nerve plexus microneuromas in individuals with and without dry eye.

BACKGROUND/AIM: An objective marker is needed to detect when corneal nerve abnormalities underlie neuropathic corneal pain (NCP), as symptoms often overlap with those of dry eye (DE). This study evaluated microneuroma (MN) frequency in various populations and investigated relationships between MN presence and DE clinical features in individuals with DE symptoms but without a history of refractive surgery, in order to eliminate refractive surgery as a potential confounder of nerve abnormalities. METHODS: This was a retrospective study that included individuals with and without DE symptoms who

Corneal inlays for presbyopia correction.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: This study provides an overview of the three types of corneal inlays now in use for the correction of presbyopia and reviews recently published evidence of the inlays' safety and efficacy. RECENT FINDINGS: Results for corneal reshaping and refractive inlays are promising, but very limited. Small-aperture inlays are already in widespread use and have been shown to improve uncorrected near and intermediate vision without a significant loss in distance acuity or an unacceptable increase in visual symptoms. Complications have been minimal, but the inlays may be removed if neces

Post implantation adjustable intraocular lenses.

To eliminate persistent refractive errors after cataract and phakic IOL surgery, photosensitive silicone IOLs have been developed. These IOL formulations enable precise laser adjustment of IOL power to correct spherical and toric errors post-operatively, after wound and IOL stabilization. Initial experience with these laser adjustable IOLs indicate excellent biocompatability and adjustability of more than five diopters.
