A random sample of 16 female patients suffering from papulopustular rosacea (PPR) as well as (16) normal female healthy subjects as control group were adopted in this study to assess of Demodex folliculorum pathogenesis. Rosacea fulminans is a rare disease of unknown cause which occurs exclusively in women well past adolescence. It was previously called pyoderma faciale because of its confinement to the face covering most of the surface with innumerable fluctuant inflammatory nodules and papules which frequently fuse and form monstrosities. Seborrhea prior to onset is typical. It is not a pyoderma; neither it is infectious or a variant of acne conglobata. We present three cases of acne rosacea keratitis that developed in childhood. All three children were prepubescent and demonstrated characteristic dermatologic findings involving the nose, cheeks, and/or chin. We describe the clinicopathologic features of the papular form of granulomatous acne rosacea of the eyelids. This unusual cutaneous disorder is typified by painless eruptions of reddish to yellowish brown, occasionally ulcerative papules symmetrically distributed around the eyelids, lower part of the forehead, nasolabial folds, and upper lip. Sixty consecutive patients with active ocular rosacea underwent Schirmer's test without anesthesia. A randomly selected group of 120 patients without rosacea, matched for age and sex, served as controls. The prevalence of dry eyes was significantly greater in the patients with rosacea. The coexistence of keratoconjunctivitis sicca and ocular rosacea probably causes a high level of symptoms that lead patients to examination and recognition.

Eighteen patients with ocular rosacea were treated with oral tetracycline which resulted in marked improvement in all patients. Approximately one half of the patients were able to taper and stop the medication without recurrence of symptoms. The remaining have tapered their medication but could not stop without recurrence of symptoms. The majority of the patients in the series had Staphylococcus aureus on their conjunctiva and lids before and after surgery.
