The present study aimed to examine whether self-esteem acts as a mediator in the relationship between problematic internet use (PIU) and well-being among athletes, and to determine the implications of these relationships for educational practice, coaching strategies, and athlete support interventions. A total of 334 Polish athletes participated in the study and completed the Polish versions of the Generalized Problematic Internet Use Scale 2 (GPIUS2), the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (SES), and the Mental Health Continuum-Short Form (MHC-SF). Pearson's r correlation coefficients and mediation a

INTRODUCTION: The uptake of HIV testing services is sub-optimal among young people. HIV self-testing (HIVST) offers opportunities to improve the uptake of HIV testing services among young people. The study was conducted to determine preferences for HIVST, its uptake, and the factors associated with uptake of HIVST among young adults.
METHODS: The study was a descriptive cross-sectional design. Data collection was done using self-administered questionnaires. We interviewed 384 university students and collected information about their HIV testing practices and preferences. Logistic regression a

Background/Objectives: African Union (AU) guidance identifies decentralized diagnostics as central to epidemic preparedness. However, the epidemiological role of self-testing across epidemic-prone diseases remains underexplored. Drivers for the potential impact of self-testing were examined conceptually using a transmission model. Methods: A deterministic SEIR model compared standard-of-care testing with additional self-testing. Global sensitivity analysis using Latin Hypercube sampling and partial rank correlation coefficients (PRCCs) examined parameters influencing reductions in peak disease

BACKGROUND: Cervical cancer (CC) rates have declined nationally but rates remain high in Black women with most cases occurring among unscreened and under-screened women. This paper describes the adaptation, acceptability, and useability of an education intervention, "Health is Wealth: A Cervical Health Intervention", to promote cervical screening and reduce perceived barriers to CC screening among two subgroups of Black women: African American (AA) and sub-Saharan African immigrant (SAI) women.
METHODS: In this paper, we describe the process of adapting the Health is Wealth intervention using

CONTEXT: Most incident cases of cervical cancer in the United States are attributable to inadequate screening. Federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) serve a large proportion of women who are low-income, have no insurance, and are underserved-risk factors for insufficient cervical cancer screening. FQHCs must maintain quality measures to preserve their accreditation, address financial reimbursements, and provide quality care. Implementation of human papillomavirus (HPV) self-collection can improve cervical cancer screening coverage within FQHCs.
OBJECTIVES: To understand perspectives from

BACKGROUND: Despite national testing guidelines, rates of testing for HIV, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and hepatitis C remain lower than recommended for men who have sex with men in the United States. To help address this, the TakeMeHome (TMH) program was started in March 2020 by Building Healthy Online Communities, a consortium of public health organizations and dating apps, to work with health departments to increase access to HIV testing for men who have sex with men on dating apps.
METHODS: Users of participating dating apps were sent messages about opportunities for testing w

BACKGROUND: Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) is a hereditary condition that leads to the development of non-malignant neoplasms in various organs, including cardiac rhabdomyomas, which can cause significant complications.
CASE PRESENTATION: This report describes the case of a 15-day-old male neonate who was hospitalized due to intracardiac masses and brain lesions, despite the absence of TSC gene mutations. The patient's mother exhibited facial angiofibromas, a common feature of TSC. Over a 2-year follow-up period, spontaneous regression of the cardiac tumor was observed.
CONCLUSIONS: This c

OBJECTIVES: Adaptations in somatosensory function characterize several chronic pain conditions, including nonspecific neck pain (NNP). Early signs of central sensitization (CS) contribute to pain chronification and poor treatment responses after conditions such as whiplash injury and low back pain. Despite this well-established association, the prevalence of CS in patients with acute NNP, and accordingly, the potential impact of this association, is still unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate whether changes in somatosensory function occur during the acute phase of NNP.

BACKGROUND: Rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) developed for point of care detection of SARS-CoV-2 antigen are recommended by WHO to use trained health care workers to collect samples. We hypothesised that self-taken samples are non-inferior for use with RDTs to diagnose COVID-19. We designed a prospective diagnostic evaluation comparing self-taken and healthcare worker (HCW)-taken throat/nasal swabs to perform RDTs for SARS-CoV-2, and how these compare to RT-PCR.
METHODS: Eligible participants 18 years or older with symptoms of COVID-19. 250 participants recruited at the NHS Test and Trace drive-

OBJECTIVES: Crowdsourcing, which taps into the wisdom of crowds, has been successful in generating strategies to enhance HIV self-testing (HIVST) uptake. We determined the cost-effectiveness of a crowdsourced intervention (one-off or annual) compared with a control scenario (no crowdsourcing) among MSM living in China.
DESIGN: Economic evaluation.
METHODS: We used data from our cluster randomized controlled trial of MSM (NCT02796963). We used a micro-costing approach to measure direct health costs ($USD2017) from a health provider perspective. Using outputs from a dynamic transmission model

Objective The current global COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted supply chains and the production of essential goods and services. This includes personal protective equipment (PPE) kits, respirators, and other protective devices. Hence efforts were made to prototype and produce 3D-printed N95 respirators to fill the gap in supply. In addition, methods of sterilization were put into place for the respirators. As well as forming standard operating procedures. Methods With the use of vast open-source libraries and collaboration with engineers and doctors fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, respirator pro

Heterogeneity of major depressive disorder (MDD) illness course complicates clinical decision-making. Although efforts to use symptom profiles or biomarkers to develop clinically useful prognostic subtypes have had limited success, a recent report showed that machine-learning (ML) models developed from self-reports about incident episode characteristics and comorbidities among respondents with lifetime MDD in the World Health Organization World Mental Health (WMH) Surveys predicted MDD persistence, chronicity and severity with good accuracy. We report results of model validation in an independ

BACKGROUND: The National Chlamydia Screening Programme performs 1.7 million tests annually among young adults in England. The effect of chlamydia screening on subsequent behavior is unknown. This study examined the self-reported impact of testing on young adults' subsequent health care-seeking and sexual behavior.
METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional Web-based anonymous survey using an online panel to recruit 1521 young adults aged 16 to 24 years and resident in England. Survey questions were developed using the theory of planned behavior. Multivariate log-binomial regression was used to i

BACKGROUND: Human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA testing has been shown to be an effective approach to cervical cancer screening, and self-collection sampling for HPV testing could be a potential alternative to Pap test, provided that women who tested positive by any method get timely follow-up and care. This feasibility study examined acceptability and usability of self-collected sampling for HPV testing among African-American (AA) women in the Mississippi Delta to inform the development of interventions to promote cervical cancer screening in this population.
METHODS: The study consisted of two p

Even in the era of highly effective human papillomavirus (HPV) prophylactic vaccines, substantial reduction in worldwide cervical cancer mortality will only be realized if effective early detection and treatment of the millions of women already infected and the millions who may not receive vaccination in the next decade can be broadly implemented through sustainable cervical cancer screening programs. Effective programs must meet three targets: (i) at least 70% of the targeted population should be screened at least once in a lifetime, (ii) screening assays and diagnostic tests must be reproduc

BACKGROUND: Self-sampling for high-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) testing is accepted by up to 30% of non-attendees to the regular cervical screening programme. Here, the yield of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN)2 or worse (≥ CIN2) and CIN3 or worse (≥ CIN3) of 15, 274 HPV self-sampling responders amongst non-attendees were compared to that of 176, 027 women participating in regular screening in the same period and in the same region. We also analysed which subpopulations amongst non-attendees are targeted by HPV self-sampling, and which characteristics relate to hrHPV prevalence an

OBJECTIVES: Ending HIV by 2030 is a global priority. Achieving this requires alternative HIV testing strategies, such as HIV self-testing (HIVST) to reach all individuals with HIV testing services (HTS). We present the results of a trial evaluating the impact of community-based distribution of HIVST in community and facility settings on the uptake of HTS in rural and urban Zambia.
DESIGN: Pair-matched cluster randomised trial.
METHODS: In catchment areas of government health facilities, OraQuick HIVST kits were distributed by community-based distributors (CBDs) over 12 months in 2016-2017. W
