Goat Model for Direct Visualizing the Effectiveness of Detaching Sinus Mucosa in Real Time During Crestal Maxillary Sinus Floor Elevation.

The procedure of crestal maxillary sinus floor elevation presents a great challenge to the field of implant dentistry. Due to the limited visualization in this procedure, the effectiveness of detaching sinus mucosa could not be assessed in real time. We recently developed an ex vivo goat sinus model by cutting the goat residual skulls along four lines determined from computerized tomography (CT) scans, extracting the maxillary premolar or molar teeth, and preparing implant socket in the maxilla. The generated ex vivo goat sinus models exposed the maxilla and the whole maxillary sinus mucosa, t

Influence of a collagen membrane positioned subjacent the sinus mucosa following the elevation of the maxillary sinus. A histomorphometric study in rabbits.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the healing after elevation of the sinus mucosa when a collagen membrane was placed between the sinus mucosa and a xenograft used as filler. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Eighteen rabbits were used. Sinus mucosa elevation was performed bilaterally, and a collagen membrane was applied subjacent to the sinus mucosa only at a randomly selected test site. At both sites, a collagenated corticocancellous porcine bone was placed within the elevated space and the access window was covered with a collagen membrane. The animals were sacrificed after 2, 4, and 8 weeks of healing, six ani

Evolving Techniques and Trends in Maxillary Sinus Lift Procedures in Implant Dentistry: A Review of Contemporary Advances.

The most challenging aspects of planning implant rehabilitation for the posterior maxillary region are the pneumatization of the maxillary sinus and the resorption of the residual alveolar ridge. To address the first aspect, there are two primary modalities for sinus augmentation: the direct or lateral window technique and the indirect or crestal technique. Clinicians must possess comprehensive knowledge of the maxillary sinus anatomy and be able to diagnose pathognomonic abnormalities through presurgical imaging and investigations. This skill is essential for performing technique-sensitive au

Incidence and Associated Factors of Schneiderian Membrane Perforation in Maxillary Sinus Floor Elevation: A Meta-Analysis.

INTRODUCTION AND AIMS: Schneiderian membrane perforation (SMP) is a common intraoperative event during maxillary sinus floor elevation (MSFE), yet contemporary estimates of its incidence and determinants remain inconsistent, leaving preoperative assessment, surgical planning, and perioperative counselling insufficiently informed. This systematic review and meta-analysis synthesized evidence on SMP incidence and prespecified anatomical, patient-related, and procedural factors associated with intraoperative perforation. METHODS: Six databases were searched from inception to October 2025 for obs

The Hydraulic Sinus Lift Technique: Opportunities and Limitations.

The sinus lift procedure, first introduced in the 1970s to address insufficient bone height in the posterior maxilla for dental implants, has greatly evolved over the years. Traditional invasive techniques, such as the lateral window approach, posed a high risk of complications, including membrane perforation. Recent developments have led to the creation of the hydraulic sinus lift, introduced in 2005, which uses hydraulic pressure to gently lift the sinus membrane, lowering risks and increasing precision. Studies have shown its high success rates, minimal postoperative discomfort, and improve

SinusC-Net for automatic classification of surgical plans for maxillary sinus augmentation using a 3D distance-guided network.

The objective of this study was to automatically classify surgical plans for maxillary sinus floor augmentation in implant placement at the maxillary posterior edentulous region using a 3D distance-guided network on CBCT images. We applied a modified ABC classification method consisting of five surgical approaches for the deep learning model. The proposed deep learning model (SinusC-Net) consisted of two stages of detection and classification according to the modified classification method. In detection, five landmarks on CBCT images were automatically detected using a volumetric regression ne…

Evaluation of the posterior superior alveolar artery location and diameter with a newly defined stable plane.

The aim of this study was to analyse the vertical location of the posterior superior alveolar artery (PSAA) using a reliable new reference plane regardless of tooth and alveolar bone, and to measure the diameter in each posterior tooth region, which is of relevance to lateral sinus floor elevation surgery. A total of 270 sinuses in 139 patients were examined in this study. The A-plane was defined by A-point and the bilateral jugal points on reconstructed three-dimensional images. The distance from the PSAA to the defined plane was measured in four regions: first premolar (P1), second premolar
