Intragastric Rupture of a Splenic Artery Aneurysm Associated with a Pancreatic Cancer.

Acute upper digestive tract hemorrhage most often arises from gastric and esophageal vessels located in the mucosa or the submucosa. Rupture in the upper gastrointestinal tract is a classical but uncommon complication of arterial (mainly the abdominal aorta) aneurysms. Splenic artery aneurysm usually ruptures in the peritoneum, unless it is associated with a disease eroding the gastrointestinal wall. We present and describe the management of the rare occurrence of an intragastric rupture of a splenic aneurysm associated with a pancreatic cancer.

Ruptured splenic abscess causing pneumoperitoneum: a rare cause revisited.

We present a case report of splenic abscess causing pneumoperitoneum in a case of uncontrolled diabetes. The patient presented with chronic pain abdomen and fever which later evolved to acute abdomen during the course of hospital stay. An X-ray showed pneumoperitoneum and exploratory laparotomy was performed under a strong clinical suspicion of hollow viscus perforation. The patient was treated with antibiotics and had an uneventful recovery.

[The risk of death from splenic ruptures by polytrauma among children].

The retrospective analysis of polytrauma with lethal outcome in 105 children showed that splenic injury had 31.4% of children. It was twice more often than liver injury, though the hemoperitoneum volume by liver injury exceeds that by spleen trauma (846.1±753.8 ml vs. 311±270.3 ml; p<0.002). The risk of death of intraabdominal bleeding by the spleen rupture is considerably low (OR 0.16; 95% CI 0.019-1.34; p=0.04). Nevertheless, the hemothorax by the spleen injury was much more significant than hemoperitoneum (977±866.9 ml vs. 311±270.3 ml; p<0.0003). The risk of death of intrathoracic bleeding

Splenic rupture in dengue hemorrhagic fever: report of a case and review.

Dengue is currently the most important arboviral disease in the world, particularly in tropical countries in which the environmental conditions favor the development and proliferation of the mosquito vector. Dengue hemorrhagic fever presents in two phases: an initial phase, which is characterized by sudden onset of fever and a variety of nonspecific signs and symptoms, and a critical phase, which is characterized by the recovery from fever and development of hemorrhagic symptoms and circulatory insufficiency. This report documents a case of splenic rupture in a patient with dengue hemorrhagic …

Splenic rupture in a newborn with severe hemophilia--case report and review.

Life-threatening splenic rupture is rare in neonates with severe hemophilia. There are only 3 cases of splenic rupture in neonates with hemophilia reported in the literature. We present the case of an infant, born to a hemophilia A carrier mother. The infant was asymptomatic until discharge at 48 hours of age, but presented on the third day of life with shock, abdominal distension, and severe anemia. Computed tomography of the abdomen confirmed the diagnosis of splenic rupture with hemoperitoneum. The infant recovered after extensive supportive care surgery and factor replacement.

Splenic rupture in systemic amyloidosis - case presentation and review of the literature.

INTRODUCTION: Splenic rupture and hemorrhage into the abdominal cavity is an extremely unusual and rare complication of internal disease. Hemopathies, inflammatory or infiltrative diseases affecting the spleen are possible causes for such a complication. Splenomegaly is a factor, which may significantly increase the risk of rupture. CASE REPORT: The authors present the case of a 52-year-old patient with established systemic amyloidosis. In the past he had received treatment for undefined hepatic disease and anemia, which was established during the treatment of pathological vertebral fractures…

Splenic rupture after colonoscopy. A case report and review of the literature.

Rupture of the spleen after colonoscopy is a rare but dangerous complication; up to now only a few cases have been reported in the literature. This complication is more frequent in patients who have previously undergone abdominal surgery and after operative colonoscopies. This case report describes a 64-year-old man who complained of abdominal pain and dyspnoea some hours after a colonoscopy. Laboratory exams showed anaemia; the patient also developed hypotension and tachycardia; a CT scan revealed a splenic laceration with haemoperitoneum. A laparotomic splenectomy was successfully carried ou

Disseminated infection with Bartonella henselae as a cause of spontaneous splenic rupture.

A 65-year-old man developed massive hemoperitoneum secondary to spontaneous splenic rupture. Histopathological analysis of the spleen demonstrated necrotizing granulomas. Results of serological tests indicated infection with a species of Bartonella, and immunohistochemical staining established Bartonella henselae as the cause of splenitis. To our knowledge, this represents the first reported case of spontaneous splenic rupture caused by infection with a species of Bartonella.

Ruptured true aneurysm of the splenic artery: an unusual cause of haemoperitoneum.

True aneurysm of the splenic artery is rare. Two cases of ruptured true splenic artery aneurysms are presented. The first patient was a 62-year-old female who presented within 6 hours of the onset of symptoms. The other was a 27-year-old non-alcoholic male patient who was admitted in a state of shock after 2 days of observation in a peripheral hospital. Both patients had haemoperitoneum and were subjected to exploratory laparotomy. Aneurysmectomy was performed in both the patients in addition to left splenopancreatectomy in the first case and splenectomy in the second. However, due to the prol

[Rupture of a splenic artery aneurysm during pregnancy. Report of a case].

Splenic artery aneurysm rupture during pregnancy is a rare but serious condition. The clinical presentation associates abdominal pain, hypotension and anemia that can mimic uterine rupture or abruptio placentae. An emergency cesarean section and splenectomy are necessary.

Peliosis of spleen presenting as splenic rupture with haemoperitoneum--a case report.

Peliosis of spleen is usually associated with peliosis of liver. Oval to round markedly dilated blood filled cystic spaces predominantly in parafollicular area is the characteristic feature of peliosis to differentiate it from congested sinuses. Exposure to viruses chemicals, contraceptive steroids or chronic debilitating disorders including malignancies are the various possible etiological factors. Though peliosis may remain asymptomatic, fatal intraperitoneal haemorrhage may occur due to its rupture. We report a case of peliosis of spleen presenting as splenic rupture with haemoperitoneum.

Ruptured splenic epidermoid cyst: case report and imaging appearances.

Traumatic rupture of a splenic epidermoid cyst is a rare but recognised cause of "acute abdomen" in a child. We describe such a case occurring after very minor trauma, show the influence that imaging had in making an accurate diagnosis, and discuss how this influenced clinical management.

Pseudoaneurysm rupture of the splenic artery - A rare cause of gastrointestinal bleeding.

Splenic artery pseudoaneurysm (SAP) is a rare and potentially life-threatening complication of pancreatitis, with a high risk of rupture and mortality rate. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial, typically through endovascular approaches such as embolization. A 46-year-old woman with chronic pancreatitis experienced gastrointestinal bleeding from a ruptured SAP, which was successfully treated with embolization using hydrocoils, resulting in complete recovery.

Maternal deaths in Australia from ruptured splenic artery aneurysms.

The rupture of a splenic artery aneurysm (SAA) in pregnancy is a highly lethal condition, but so rare that most obstetricians would not encounter it during their career. In the seven official 'Maternal Deaths in Australia' reports, that covered 21 years from 1997 to 2017, among a total of 449 direct and indirect deaths, there were nine deaths (2%) from a ruptured SAA. These cases, and other cases from the literature and the Cochrane Library, are reviewed. The aim of the review is to raise awareness among clinicians of this potentially fatal condition.

Case of spontaneous splenic rupture caused by ectopic pregnancy in the spleen.

Splenic ectopic pregnancy refers to the implantation of the oosperm in the spleen. If not diagnosed early, the results of this phenomenon would almost certainly be splenic rupture, which is equivalent to the spontaneous rupture of the spleen. If the patient has no history of trauma, it is difficult to diagnose this condition early and an explicit diagnosis is often obtained by exploratory laparotomy. We report the case of a 27-year-old woman who was admitted to the hospital due to abdominal pain and hemorrhagic shock. Under emergency general anesthesia, gynecologist and hepatobiliary surgeons …
