[Chopart and Lisfranc sprains : don't miss them].

Midfoot sprains are frequent injuries but remain largely under-recognized, often mistakenly attributed to a simple ankle sprain. Diagnosis is challenged by the nonspecific clinical presentation, the anatomical complexity of the midfoot, and the limited sensitivity of conventional imaging. This article summarizes the functional anatomy of the midfoot, the injury mechanisms specific to its various articulations, and the clinical and radiologic features that may guide diagnosis. In the acute setting, CT scan is the imaging modality of choice. Improved identification of these injuries is essential

Effects of Dual-Task-Based Balance Exercise on Enhancing Single-Limb Static and Dynamic Balance Performance in Children with a Previous Ankle Sprain History.

AIMS: This study aimed to estimate the extent to which dual-task-based balance exercise vs. single-task-based balance exercise (I) vs. no training (C) affects single-limb static and dynamic balance performance (O) in children with a history of ankle sprain (P). This study aimed to assess the impact of dual-task-based balance exercises on enhancing single-limb static and dynamic balance performance in children with a previous ankle sprain history. METHODS: In this quasi-experimental study, 66 male children (mean age = 9.34 ± 0.88 years) with a history of ankle sprains were recruited from sport

Absorption function loss due to the history of previous ankle sprain explored by unsupervised machine learning.

BACKGROUND: Ankle sprains are common and cause persistent ankle function reduction. To biomechanically evaluate the ankle function after ankle sprains, the ground reaction force (GRF) measurement during the single-legged landing had been used. However, previous studies focused on discrete features of vertical GRF (vGRF), which largely ignored vGRF waveform features that could better identify the ankle function. PURPOSE: To identify how the history of ankle sprain affect the vGRF waveform during the single-legged landing with unsupervised machine learning considering the time-series informatio

[Regularities of acupoint compatibility and application characteristics of methods of needling and moxibustion in the treatment of ankle sprain based on complex network analysis].

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the compatibility regularities of acupoints and the application characteristics of needling-moxibustionmethods in the treatment of ankle sprain by using complex network technology, so as to provide the basis and treatment ideas. METHODS: The clinical research articles on acupuncture treatment of ankle joint sprain published from November 2011 to November 2021 were retrieved from databases of CNKI, Wanfang Data knowledge service platform, VIP information Chinese journal service platform and PubMed by using key words of "acupuncture""moxibustion" "acupuncture and moxibusti

Epidemiology and management of ankle sprain injuries over seven seasons in an elite professional ballet company.

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the epidemiology and management of ankle ligament sprains over seven seasons in a professional ballet company. DESIGN: Descriptive epidemiology study. METHODS: Medical attention injury, time-loss injury, and exposure data pertaining to 140 professional ballet dancers were prospectively recorded by Chartered Physiotherapists over seven seasons (2015/16-2021/22); a period including the COVID-19 global pandemic. RESULTS: Sixty-nine ankle sprains (46 time-loss) in 45 dancers (32 %) were recorded: 51 sprains were classified as grade I, 15 were classified as grade II, a

Calf Strain in Athletes.

»: Calf strain is a common condition. In high-performance athletes, calf strain contributes to a substantial absence from competition. »: Player age and history of a calf strain or other leg injury are the strongest risk factors for calf strain injury and reinjury. »: Although the diagnosis is often clinical, magnetic resonance imaging and ultrasound are valuable to confirm the location of the strain and the grade of injury. »: Nonoperative treatment is effective for most calf strain injuries. Operative management, although rarely indicated, may be appropriate for severe cases with grade-II

Trampoline centre injuries in children and adolescents: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

CONTEXT: No evidence-based review has compared injury risks sustained on trampolines at home and in trampoline centres. OBJECTIVE: To present pooled results for injury type, site and treatment from studies reporting injuries that occurred on trampolines at home and in trampoline centres. DATA SOURCES: MEDLINE, Scopus, Google Scholar and Embase databases were searched to 31 December 2021. STUDY SELECTION: Inclusion criteria: (1) assessment of trampoline injuries (home and trampoline centres); (2) children and adolescents; (3) the point estimate was reported as an odds ratio (OR); and (4) an

Current Concept Review: State of Acute Lateral Ankle Injury Classification Systems.

Acute lateral ankle sprain (ALAS) is one of the most frequent musculoskeletal injuries, with a great impact on health and socioeconomic factors. There are few consensuses on this subject and multiple therapeutic options that are difficult to compare due to the lack of a universally adopted classification system. The objective of this study is to is to report the actual knowledge on how ALAS are classified and reported and not to make any therapeutic recommendation. A comprehensive literature review of the literature was carried out through a search in the MEDLINE, Cochrane Library and Google S

Risk factors for acute ankle sprains in field-based, team contact sports: a systematic review of prospective etiological studies.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this systematic review was to identify prospectively measured ankle sprain risk factors in field-based team contact sports. METHODS: Eight databases including SPORTDiscus, CINAHL Complete, MEDLINE (EBSCO), Education Source, Web of Science, Scopus, Embase, and Pubmed were searched using specific Boolean terms. A modified-CASP diagnostic test assessed the quality of the included studies. Extensive data extraction included but was not limited to injury definition, protocols for injury diagnosis and recording, and outcomes associated with ankle sprain. RESULTS: 4012 records

Playing surface traction influences movement strategies during a sidestep cutting task in futsal: implications for ankle performance and sprain injury risk.

This descriptive laboratory crossover trial study examined the intervention of high friction synthetic vs lower friction natural sport surfaces on the ankle joint biomechanics in a sidestep cutting task. Twenty-nine male futsal players performed 5 trials of sidestep cutting task in a laboratory, recorded by an 18-camera motion capture system to obtain the ankle joint orientation, velocity and moment. Utilised friction was obtained by the peak ratio of the horizontal to vertical ground reaction force during the stance. Repeated measures (MANOVA) suggested a significant effect of the playing sur

[Recognition of ankle sprain: not only lateral collateral ligament injury].

Ankle sprains are a common cause of morbidity in the general and athletic population. The majority of sprains involve the lateral aspect of the ankle, affecting the anterior talofibular ligament. However, the extent and categories of injury will depend upon the mechanism of injury. The ankle injury caused by ankle sprain is not only the injury of lateral collateral ligaments, but also chondral or osteochondral lesions of the talus, anterior ankle impingement, posterior ankle impingement and so on. In addition to the involvement of ankle joint, ankle sprain often leads to the injury of subtalar

Injury Profiles in Korean Youth Soccer.

We aimed to analyze injury profiles and injury severity in Korean youth soccer players. Data on all injuries that occurred in U-15 youth soccer players during the 2019 season were collected from 681 players of 22 teams through a medical questionnaire. The questionnaire was based on injury surveillance procedures of the Federation International de Football Association Medical and Research Centre and International Olympic Committee, and it comprised questions on demographic characteristics, training conditions, and injury information. Among all players, defenders accounted for 33.0%, followed by
