OBJECTIVE: To determine medium-term outcome after arterial switch operation for complete transposition in a population-based cohort.
DESIGN: Retrospective study of all 86 patients operated on at our institution from 1982 to 2000. Age at operation was 0-256 days (median 6 days); 28 (32%) had closure of a ventricular septal defect, 2 of whom had double outlet right ventricle. From August 1978 through December 1982, a total of 200 patients with previously untreated carcinoma of the uterine cervix were treated using remote afterloading high-dose rate intracavitary therapy (RALS) at our department. According to the staging of UICC (1978), 8 patients were classified into Stage Ia, 22 Ib, 22 IIa, 53 IIb, 85 III, and 10 IV. In a 2-year trial at a single center, prospective HLA-DR matching for cadaver renal transplantation exerted a stronger effect than either HLA-A and B matching or blood transfusion. One-year cumulative graft survivals for two-DR-matched organs was 92%.
