The late results of patellar fractures treatment with polyester suture in 24 patients with an average follow up of 8.1 year was presented. The method proved to be useful in transverse fractures of the central and distal part od the patella as well as in multi-fragmented ones. The establishment of the Hungarian cranio-facial surgical team is reported on and the activity sphere of this special field is described. The consequences of early ossification of the cranial sutures as well as the therapeutical possibilities are dealt with. Brief review is given on the development of cranio-facial surgery. The age, diagnosis and interventions performed with the patients in 1987 are summarized in a table.

The Duhamel operation of retrorectal transanal pull-through is a widely used technique in the treatment of Hirschsprung's disease. Modifications of the technique have been made with the introduction of stapling instruments. The construction of a side-to-side colorectal anastomosis has been facilitated with the introduction of the GIA linear anastomosing instrument. The advent of the EEA stapling device has allowed us to perform a modified Duhamel operation in a 9-month-old boy with Hirschsprung's disease using mechanical sutures entirely. Experiments in 5 pigs and 18 mongrel dogs have shown the possibility to close perforating ulcers with plates of biopolymer "Tachocomb". The method is proposed as an alternative to suturing perforations in the zone of pylorus in order to prevent stenosis of the pyloric part of the stomach. The experimental data obtained have confirmed good adhesive and stimulating properties of the fibrin-collagen substance. Successful results of using the method were demonstrated in 2 patients with perforating ulcers.

From 1987 to 1990 pelvioscopic distal salpingostomy was performed in 47 patients at the University Hospital of Kiel. The tubal mucosa was everted and fixed with 4/0 PDS sutures. 35 patients (74%) responded to a questionnaire 2-4 years after surgery. The purpose of this paper is to provide a new perspective on craniosynostosis by correlating what is known about sutural biology with the events of craniosynostosis per se. The purpose of this paper was to report our experience with an arthroscopic technique of repair for the Bankart lesion following shoulder instability. Twenty-seven patients (average age, 21.7 years) were followed for an average of 36 months after arthroscopic suture stabilization of anterior shoulder instability. Patients were excluded if instability was multidirectional or voluntary and if there was radiographic evidence of a significant loss of glenoid bone stock. Sutural anomalies in conjunction with craniofacial clefting are unusual. A case of median frontal clefting is presented in which there was an absence of a normal metopic suture and replacement by paramedian frontal sutures. The association of an underlying brain anomaly, with attendant surgical difficulties, is noted, as are the radiological techniques of preoperative diagnosis.
