BACKGROUND: Bisphenol A (BPA) is an ubiquitous chemical contaminant that has recently been associated with adverse effects on human health. There is incomplete understanding of BPA toxicokinetics, and there are no established interventions to eliminate this compound from the human body. Using 20 study participants, this study was designed to assess the relative concentration of BPA in three body fluids-blood, urine, and sweat-and to determine whether induced sweating may be a therapeutic intervention with potential to facilitate elimination of this compound.

Dependence on illicit drugs during pregnancy is a major public health concern as there may be associated adverse maternal, fetal, and neonatal consequences. BACKGROUND: A false-positive sweat test in patients with deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate-1-dehydrogenase (EC 1.1.1.49; G6PD) is repeatedly reported.
METHODS: Sweat chloride or conductivity was measured in 11 patients with G6PD deficiency.
RESULTS: Mean (SD) chloride level (n = 8, median age 9.2 years, range 1.9-48.5) was 18.8 (9.6 mmol/l) and, mean (SD) sodium level was 26.0 (10.0 mmol/l), respectively, and mean (SD) conductivity (n = 3, median age 6.6 years, range 1.9-40.5) was 34.3 (6.5 mmol/l).

OBJECTIVE: To investigate cutaneous sympathetic functions in carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) using sympathetic sweat responses (SSwRs) and skin vasomotor reflexes (SVmRs).
METHODS: In 29 hands (20 patients) with idiopathic CTS, SSwRs were recorded with a sudorometer from the thenar eminence, and SVmRs were used to measure cutaneous blood flow using a Doppler flowmeter placed on the index finger tip. Normal data were obtained from 15 volunteers of similar age.

Sclerosing sweat duct carcinoma (SSDC) is a rare cutaneous neoplasm. A 28-year-old man presented with 2-3 years history of a tetter on his upper lip, and a 3 cm x 4 cm lymph node was palpable in the left submandibular area. A five-year-old, male crossbreed rabbit was referred for acute caudal abdominal swelling. On physical examination, the rabbit was slightly depressed and showed an enlarged subcutaneous cyst in the caudal abdomen and an adjacent small, ulcerated solid mass. A drainage tube was placed in the cystic area, and surgical resection of the solid mass was performed. The histopathological diagnosis of the mass was apocrine adenocarcinoma. To the authors' knowledge, this report describes the first case of spontaneous apocrine adenocarcinoma of possible sweat gland origin in a male rabbit.

Functional sudomotor responses have been studied in sweat glands reinnervated after sciatic nerve crush and partially denervated by cisplatin intoxication in the mouse. The sudomotor function mediated by the sciatic nerve was evaluated by silicone imprints on the plantar surface of the hindpaws.
