BACKGROUND: Pseudohypoparathyroidism (PHP) is a rare and inherited disease caused by mutations in the GNAS-gene or upstream of the GNAS complex locus. It is characterized by end-organ resistance to PTH, resulting in hypocalcemia and hyperphosphatemia. We aimed to investigate the dental anomalies according to tooth types and the orthodontic characteristics of patients with PHP.
METHODS: Using a cross-sectional design, 29 patients (23 females) with PHP, living in Denmark, were included, and their clinical intraoral photos and radiographs were examined.
RESULTS: Pulp calcification was found in

INTRODUCTION: Histologic studies of teeth from animal models of revascularization/revitalization are available; however, specimens from human studies are lacking. The nature of tissues formed in the canal of human revascularized/revitalized teeth was not well established.
METHODS: An immature mandibular premolar with infected necrotic pulp and a chronic apical abscess was treated with revascularization/revitalization procedures. At both the 18-month and 2-year follow-up visits, radiographic examination showed complete resolution of the periapical lesion, narrowing of the root apex without roo

The aim of the present study was to describe the localization and extension of epithelial rests of Malassez (ERM) in the periodontal membrane (PDM) in normal human third molars. The material consisted of 24 normally developed human third molars surgically removed from patients with an age range from 15 to 27 years (six females and six males). The root lengths were developed from close to half-length to complete apex closure. The extracted teeth were fixed in 10 per cent neutral-buffered formalin, decalcified in ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid EDTA, paraffin embedded and cut sagittaly in 5 m

This study evaluated factors that affected pulpectomy (PE) success and its effect on the succedaneous tooth's eruption and enamel formation. Sixty-five of 250 patients with PEs met the selection criteria and yielded 81 zinc oxide-eugenol PEs (30 incisors, 51 molars) followed a mean time of 90.8 months. Overall PE success was 77.7% with no difference between molars and incisors (P = 0.53). Enamel defects were observed in 18.7% of succedaneous teeth and were related (P = 0.005) to the pre-existing infection causing excess root resorption (>1 mm preoperative root resorption = 44.4% defects) but w

BACKGROUND: Postoperative pain is a common concern in endodontic treatment. In teeth with asymptomatic irreversible pulpitis, accurate working length determination is critical for effective root canal therapy and may influence postoperative discomfort. This study compared postoperative pain following root canal treatment in teeth with asymptomatic irreversible pulpitis when working length was determined using one of four electronic apex locators or periapical radiography.
METHODS: A total of 125 patients with asymptomatic irreversible pulpitis in single-rooted, single-canal teeth were include

BACKGROUND: Due to the close relationship between maxillary posterior teeth and maxillary sinus floor (MSF), infection from teeth with endodontic disease may spread into maxillary sinus and cause the occurrence of maxillary sinusitis of endodontic origin (MSEO). Endodontic microsurgical intervention in infected teeth causing MSEO requires careful assessment and planning. This study evaluated the anatomical patterns of MSF using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), and further explored their influence on the endodontic microsurgery of MSEO.
METHODS: A total of 333 CBCT scans were collected be

The purpose of this paper was to compare radiographically the prevalence and degree of apical root resorption after treatment with a fully programmed edgewise appliance (FPA) and a partly programmed edgewise appliance (PPA) in a randomized multipractice clinical trial. Two groups of patients with Class II malocclusions were treated orthodontically. The type of treatment was randomly assigned by a computer program. During fixed appliance therapy, one group was treated according to the precepts of the straight wire concept (FPA; n = 32) while the other was treated with conventional full edgewise

Background and Objectives: Lidocaine Hydrochloride has been the standard choice for local anesthesia in dentistry and Articaine's unique structure and growing popularity make it a viable alternative. Due to contradictory results in prior research and a scarcity of trials conducted in the Pakistani population, this study aims to compare the anesthetic efficacy of Lidocaine with Articaine for inferior alveolar nerve blocks in patients with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis. Materials and Methods: This double-blinded, randomized controlled trial included 152 patients who were selected by consecut

Cardiac allograft vasculopathy (CAV) limits the long-term success of heart transplants. Generation of donor-specific antibodies (DSAs) is associated with increased incidence of CAV clinically, but mechanisms underlying development of this pathology remain poorly understood. Major histocompatibility complex-mismatched A/J cardiac allografts in B6.CCR5-/- recipients have been reported to undergo acute rejection with little T-cell infiltration, but intense deposition of C4d in large vessels and capillaries of the graft accompanied by high titers of DSA. This model was modified to investigate mech

The prevalence of dental trauma, particularly in permanent maxillary anterior teeth, is high and can significantly impact a patient's quality of life. Furthermore, the growing desire of elderly patients to maintain their teeth has led to an increased need for the performance of complex dental treatments. Traumatic injuries often lead to root resorption, pulp necrosis, as well as wide root canals and open apices due to disruption of tooth development. Therefore, precise strategies are required for working length determination, cleaning, and shaping, along with obturation. A 64-year-old female p

PURPOSE: The history of dentistry is not short; it started from ancient Egypt to ancient Romans and ancient Greeks. When it comes to extraction, all of them have made their own discoveries and progress. The progress they made also helped dentistry to move ahead in evolution of new extraction technique - the Physics Forceps. We have assessed the viability in using the Physics Forceps for routine dental extraction in our study for a period of 1 year.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study was conducted on 241 patients indicated for extraction based on our inclusion criteria using Physics Forceps afte

The aim of this study was to simulate the stress response in the periodontium of the maxillary first molar to different moment to force ratios, and to determine the moment to force ratio for translational movement of the tooth by means of the finite element method. The three-dimensional finite element model of the maxillary first molar consisted of 3097 nodes and 2521 isoparametric eight-node solid elements. The model was designed to dissect the periodontal ligament, root, and alveolar bone separately. The results demonstrate the sensitivity of the periodontium to load changes. The stress patt
