The RESTORE Framework: An Integrative Theory of Resilience and Sustainable Thriving in Nursing Academia.

AIM: To introduce and theoretically articulate the RESTORE framework, a multi-level model explaining how leadership, organisational conditions, and relational processes interact to support workforce resilience and sustainable thriving in nursing academia. Nursing academia faces growing strain from workforce shortages, escalating role demands and limited clinical education capacity. Current resilience models emphasise individual coping and overlook organisational and relational influences on well-being. System-level approaches that reconceptualise resilience as a pathway to thriving are require

Undernutrition in nursing home rehabilitation patients.

OBJECTIVE: To examine the prevalence of undernutrition, received dietetic treatment and self-perception of nutritional status in older patients admitted to Dutch nursing home rehabilitation wards. METHODS: Between December 2012-February 2014, we included 190 patients (≥65 y) admitted to seven nursing home rehabilitation wards. Nutritional status in the first week of admission was characterized as: severely undernourished (>10% unintentional weight loss in the past six months and/or >5% unintentional weight loss in the past month and/or BMI < 20 kg/m2), moderately undernourished (5-10% uninten

The cardio-respiratory effects of intra-abdominal hypertension: Considerations for critical care nursing practice.

Intra-abdominal hypertension can be classified as either primary or secondary. Primary intra-abdominal hypertension is often associated through trauma or diseases of the abdominopelvic region such as pancreatitis or abdominal surgery, while secondary intra-abdominal hypertension is the result of extra-abdominal causes such as sepsis or burns. The critically ill patient offers some challenges in monitoring in particular secondary intra-abdominal hypertension because of the effects of fluid resuscitation, the use of inotropes and positive pressure ventilation. Recent work suggests that intensive

Which Theoretical Models or Frameworks Are Used to Understand Trauma-Informed Care in Mental Health Settings? A Scoping Review.

This scoping review examines and synthesizes the theoretical foundations underpinning trauma-informed care (TIC) in mental health settings. A systematic search of CINAHL, Scopus, Web of Science, and PubMed yielded 1278 records, of which 23 peer-reviewed studies published between 2010 and 2025 met the inclusion criteria. Reporting followed the PRISMA-ScR (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews) checklist and explanation. Seven overarching theoretical domains were identified: neurobiological and psychophysiological foundations, psychologi

A closer look at orthopedic injuries associated with maxillofacial trauma.

Although orthopedic injury has been reported to be the most frequent injury associated with facial trauma, their relationship has not been sufficiently evaluated in the literature. To evaluate this relationship, we compared 263 patients with concomitant facial and orthopedic injuries with 2006 patients with facial injuries alone. The rate of associated orthopedic injuries was 11.5%. Motor vehicle accidents, falls, mandibular fractures, and Le Fort I fractures increased the chance of sustaining orthopedic injuries nearly 17-, 15-, 10-, 4.4-, and 4.5-fold, respectively. Most fractures occurred i

Klippel-Feil syndrome.

Nurses working with orthopaedic clients and pediatric populations may be the first to recognize the classic triad of Klippel-Feil syndrome: short neck, limitation of neck motion, and low occipital hairline. Klippel-Feil syndrome is a congenital malformation of the cervical vertebrae, with limited treatment options. Client/family education is vital to monitor and maintain function and to prevent neurologic deficits resulting from the fusions, accidents, or trauma.

Effect of Triage Nurse Initiated Radiography Using the Ottawa Ankle Rules on Emergency Department Length of Stay at a Tertiary Centre.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the effect of triage nurse initiated radiographs using the Ottawa Ankle Rules (OAR) on emergency department (ED) throughput. We hypothesized OAR use would reduce median ED length of stay (LOS) by 25 minutes or more. METHODS: A randomized controlled trial was conducted at a tertiary centre ED with an annual census of over 90,000 patients. Adult patients presenting within 10 days of isolated blunt ankle trauma were eligible. Participants were randomly assigned to standard triage or OAR application by 15 explicitly trained triage nurses. Our primary outcome was ED LOS. Se

Barriers to Assessing and Treating Trauma in Primary Care and Opportunities for Improvement: Perspectives from Prescribers of Medications for Opioid Use Disorder.

Background: Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) is a best practice for treating individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD), and primary care-based MOUD management can reduce treatment barriers among OUD patients. Individuals with OUD experience disproportionately high rates of trauma and violence, highlighting the importance of addressing trauma, mental health, and substance use concurrently. However, clear guidelines for trauma-informed treatment in a primary care setting remain poorly established. Methods: A qualitative approach was engaged to explore primary care providers' perception

Knowledge, attitude, and practice toward hypothermia in severe trauma patients among healthcare professionals in emergency departments and trauma centers in Shanghai: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Hypothermia is a critical component of the trauma triad of death and has been shown to increase morbidity and mortality among severely injured patients. Early recognition and effective temperature management are essential to improving outcomes, yet clinical knowledge and implementation remain inconsistent. Understanding healthcare professionals' preparedness for hypothermia management is therefore of great importance. To examine the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of medical staff in emergency departments and trauma centers in Shanghai regarding the management of hypother
