Sixty-one cases of diverticulum of the male urethra were reviewed. This group included 10 patients with congenital and 51 with acquired diverticula. The etiology of the acquired variety, the radiological findings, and the frequency of appearance in both congenital and acquired diverticula of the urethra during a 30-year period are described.

A series of 54 men, 25 with acute urinary retention and 29 with cytometrically proven bladder outflow obstruction (BOO), underwent dilatation of the prostatic urethra using a 35 mm fixed diameter, low compliance balloon. In 42 patients this was performed under cystoscopic guidance and in 12 patients under fluoroscopic control. Duplication of the female urethra is quite uncommon. A case of complete urethral duplication is reported in a 2.5 year old girl seen for pyuria. Physical examination showed and epispadiac meatus with dribbling urine just above a bifid clitoris associated with an orthotopic meatus. We report on the retrospective analysis of 61 traumatic lesions of the posterior urethra in a fractured pelvis. In collaboration with the orthopedic surgeons, 44 cases could be classified with regard to the nature and mechanism of the pelvic fracture. A case of large diverticular stone of anterior urethra is reported. A 70-year-old man was admitted for dysuria, miction pain and hard mass beneath the scrotal skin. Retrograde urethrogram revealed a large stone in anterior urethral diverticulum and extravasation of contrast medium through the fistula from diverticulum. Open resection of diverticulum was performed and the stone was removed. Three months after the operation, the urethrogram showed no abnormal findings. The stone was 40 x 19 x 17 mm in size, weighed 16 g and was mainly composed of calcium phosphate.

A case is presented of erythroplasia of Queyrat involving the distal glans penis surrounding the urethral meatus. Therapy with topical 5-fluorouracil was followed by recurrence within 14 months. Treatment by excision utilizing the Mohs technique demonstrated carcinoma in situ of over 5 cm of the distal urethra. Plastic surgical reconstruction produced a cosmetically and functionally normal penis.

A prospective study of 100 prostate glands taken at necropsy showed evidence of vascular disorders in 14. In 12 cases there was oedema, haemorrhage, or necrosis of the anterior wall of the prostatic urethra, and in two there was more extensive central infarction.
