Prostate cancer most commonly originates from the peripheral zone and is typically detected by elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels. We present a 42-year-old man with progressive lower urinary tract symptoms and a PSA level within the normal range (1.45 ng/mL). Bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) is one of the major complication of the locally advanced prostate cancer. Its impact on prostate cancer prognosis is low and remains controversial but its impact on patient quality of life is real. We performed a systematic search to find relevant publications from Medline and wrote a mini-review on the different therapeutic approaches to relieve obstructive symptoms.

Hydatid disease, the parasitic infestation caused by the cestode, echinococcus granulosus involves mainly the liver and the lungs though no organ is immune. Genito urinary involvement has been found mainly in the kidneys and rarely in other structures such as, bladder and epididymis. Isolated retrovesical location of the hydatid cyst is a very rare condition whose manifestations appears after a long course of the disease and are due to compression of bladder, causing the bladder out flow obstruction. Such rare case of bladder out flow obstruction is presented.

Using the previously demonstrated statistical relationship between urinary flow rate and bladder volume we tested 53 patients with clinically evident outflow obstruction by uroflowmetry. Of these patients 32 were tested before and after a successful operation for outflow obstruction. In 98 per cent of the maximum flow measurements in obstructed patients the nomogram values were less than minus 2 standard deviations, indicating a clear separation from the normal population.
