The inner ear responds immunologically to foreign proteins and pathogens introduced into the cochlea. The route of entry of the cells participating in the inner ear inflammatory process is the spiral modiolar vein with its collecting venules. Since this vein is located adjacent to the scala tympani, the end result of cellular infiltration is fibro-osseous obliteration of this scala preferentially. This observation has implications for the placement of cochlear implant electrodes of patients with labyrinthitis as the cause of hearing loss.

Differences in parameters of ciliary body and Schlemm's canal in different meridians of the eyeball has been described using histotopographic methods on 20 eyeballs of human corpses. Circular stripe of sclera with the width to 2.1 mm from limb was a point of projection of Schlemm's canal, iridocorneal and iridociliary angles on the sclera surface. The use of intravital microscopy as a tool for studying the microcirculation has increased greatly over the last several decades. Early microscopes provided the first pictures of the microcirculation, but were cumbersome to use and subjected the tissue to a high light intensity, a problem which has recently become the subject of much discussion. Cutaneous small vessel vasculitis (CSVV) or leukocytoclastic vasculitis (LCV) is a group of immune complex mediated vasculitides that affect dermal capillaries or post-capillary venules and classically presents as lower extremity palpable purpura. CSVV can be subdivided by antibody type and clinical features. In patients presenting with signs of LCV and ANCA positivity, clinicopathologic correlation is important in characterizing the type of vasculitis. We report an uncommon case of IgA vasculitis with concurrent ANCA-positivity attributed to bacterial endocarditis.

We report the case of a 87-year-old woman admitted to our Emergency Department for mild abdominal pain associated with vomiting. An abdominal X-ray showed gas present in the portal venules of the left hepatic lobe, a finding associated with numerous surgical and medical conditions. The patient was successfully managed with conservative treatment. Isolated intrahepatic gas is a rare radiologic finding; emergency surgery should be performed only when there are signs of associated acute intestinal infarction.

The fate of lissamine-rhodamine-labelled bovine serum albumin was studied in reversed Arthus reactions and PCA. In reversed Arthus reactions there were accumulations of antigen in the subendothelial spaces and in the endothelial cell layer of vessel walls and the lumina of capillaries and venules as well as extracellularly. After some time granuolcytes took up antigen. In PCA the deposits in vessel walls were not impressive but clearly demonstrable; granulocytes take up antigen within 5 minutes.
