Staphylococcus microti DSM 22147 was isolated from viscera of common voles (Microtus arvalis Pallas) with generalized Brucella microti infection in the Czech Republic. To the best of our knowledge, the genome sequence of the species S. microti has not been previously studied. The complete genome sequence of strain DSM 22147 includes a genome of 2,381,859 bp (38.0% GC content) without any plasmids.

Gaucher's disease is a rare lysosomal storage disorder. Excess accumulation of glucosylceramide predominantly occurs in abdominal viscera. Cardiac involvement is rare, though they generally represent as restrictive cardiomyopathy and pericarditis. Our case, a 19-year old boy initially presented with hepatosplenomegaly but later diagnosed with haemorrhagic pericardial effusion. Enzyme supplementation gives successful outcome but our case was managed symptomatically with pericardiocentesis.

A dog with a lymphoproliferative disease resembling the Sézary syndrome variant of mycosis fungoides in man had large numbers of circulating morphologically abnormal lymphoid cells, multicentric cutaneous nodules and plaques, and extracutaneous involvement of lymph nodes and viscera. The presence of Pautrier's microabscesses, intracutaneous hyperchromatic cells, and leukemic cells with convoluted nuclei distinguished the disease from other types of cutaneous lymphoma.

Iliac hernia is a rare complication that appears especially when full-thickness grafts are taken. It is more common in females and the main symptom is pain in the graft area. Surgical treatment is recommended due to the risk of incarceration as these hernias may contain abdominal viscera. There is no standard treatment for these hernias.

An unusual case of isolated levocardia, duodenal obstruction, and malrotation with volvulus is reported. Three cases of situs inversus abdominus with malrotation with volvulus have been reported to date. The current case is the fourth case and only the second survivor in the series. In cases of situs inversus abdominus, because of inversion of viscera, the volvulus may occur in an anticlockwise direction and, thus, should be derotated in a clockwise direction.

The cystic lymphangioma of the liver is an extremely rare benign tumor that usually belongs to a systemic lymphangiomatosis. A case of an adult woman presenting a cystic lymphangioma as single hepatic lesion with no other viscera affected is described. Ultrasonography and computed tomography did not allow a differential diagnosis of the lesion from the more common hydatid cyst. Definitive diagnosis and treatment were reached only by exploratory laparotomy.

Splenic injury was associated with a flexible fiberoptic colonoscopy and required an urgent splenectomy. Injuries to viscera other than the colon during colonoscopy are rare, and the diagnosis is frequently delayed. Excessive traction on the splenocolic ligament or on preexisting adhesions, resulting in capsular tears, is the presumed mechanism of injury. Although computed tomography may be helpful, the greatest aid to an early diagnosis is the knowledge that this complication may occur.

Congenital visceral myofibromatosis is an uncommon disorder characterized by multiple tumors of myofibroblastic origin in the neonatal period. The natural history of the disorder has been well delineated. The myofibroblast is the cell of origin of the tumor. This is a report of a patient in whom multiple mesenchymal tumors occurred in the CNS as well as in other organs. Light and electron microscopic findings of the CNS lesions are similar to those of the somites and viscera.

The general pathological and ocular studies in an aborted fetus with type II glycogenosis revealed the widespread lysosomal storage of glycogen. Obvious lesions are observed in the viscera, in the skeletal and ocular muscles, and in all ocular tissues except the pigment epithelium of the retina. Brain and heart are relatively spared. Conjunctival and skin biopsies have a diagnostic importance, since specific alterations are evident early in the course of the disease.

Niemann-Pick disease (NPD) is caused by the loss of acid sphingomyelinase (ASM) activity, which results in widespread accumulation of undegraded lipids in cells of the viscera and CNS. In this study, we tested the effect of combination brain and systemic injections of recombinant adeno-associated viral vectors encoding human ASM (hASM) in a mouse model of NPD. Performing complex surgical procedures in patients with situs inversus totalis is a challenge because of the need to orient to the completely mirror transposed abdominal and thoracic viscera. We report our experience in performing a three phase minimally invasive (thoracoscopic and laparoscopic) esophagectomy for carcinoma of the mid esophagus in a patient with situs inversus totalis. Pelvic floor muscles have two major functions: they provide support or act as a floor for the abdominal viscera including the rectum; and they provide a constrictor or continence mechanism to the urethral, anal, and vaginal orifices (in females). This article discusses the relevance of pelvic floor to the anal opening and closure function, and discusses new findings with regards to the role of these muscles in the vaginal and urethra closure mechanisms.

We describe the case of a woman with congenital rubella who presented with backache. Plain abdominal X-ray revealed calcification of a superior mesenteric artery aneurysm. Intra-arterial digital subtraction angiography demonstrated multiple aneurysms of the arteries to the upper and lower limbs and the viscera. We have not found another report in the literature of the association of congenital rubella with multiple aneurysms.
