Intestinal microbial community diversity between healthy and orally infected rabbit with Entamoeba histolytica by ERIC-PCR.

Enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus (ERIC)-PCR was applied to analyze the difference of intestinal microbial community diversity … logies of the fragment about 300 bp of infected ileum sampled at 48 h p.i. were more than 90 % with Xanthomonas campestris enterobacterial, Yersinia enterocolitica subsp., Shigella flexneri, S. meliloti enterobacterial, Yersinia pestis, Klebsiella pneumoniae subsp., and Escherichia coli. The prominent bacteria had changed after E. histolytica infection. The D …

Functional analysis of a tomato salicylic acid methyl transferase and its role in synthesis of the flavor volatile methyl salicylate.

Methyl salicylate (MeSA) is a volatile plant secondary metabolite that is an important contributor to taste and scent of many fruits and flo … ightly delayed symptom development following infection with the disease-causing bacterial pathogen, Xanthomonas campestris pv. vesicatoria (Xcv). Unexpectedly, pathogen-challenged leaves accumulated significantly higher levels of SA as well as glycosylated forms of SA and MeSA, indicating a disruption in control of the SA-related metabolite pool. Taken togeth …

Differential effectiveness of salicylate-dependent and jasmonate/ethylene-dependent induced resistance in Arabidopsis.

Salicylic acid (SA), jasmonic acid (JA), and ethylene (ET) are each involved in the regulation of basal resistance against different pathoge … tance responses (Alternaria brassicicola), or a combination of SA-, JA-, and ET-dependent defenses (Xanthomonas campestris pv. armoraciae). Activation of ISR resulted in a significant level of protection against A. brassicicola, whereas SAR was ineffective against this pathogen. Conversely, activation of SAR resulted in a high level of protection against P. p …

In v … er spp, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacter cloacae, Serratia marcescens, Burkholderia cepacia and Xanthomonas maltophilia). RESULTS: The activity of cefepime against most Gram-negative bacilli other than B cepacia and X maltophilia is better than that of ceftazidime. However, cefepime is less active against these Gram-negative bacilli than ciprofloxacin an …

Identification of a novel NPR1 homolog gene, OsNH5N16, which contributes to broad-spectrum resistance in rice.

Over half of the earth's population consumes rice as the primary food crop for dietary calories. However, severe loss of rice yield occurs due to bacterial blight caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo) and bakanae disease caused by Fusarium fujikuroi (F. fujikuroi). Therefore, broad-spectrum resistance (BSR) to these pathogens is essential for rice cultivation. The Nonexpressor of Pathogenesis-Related Genes1 (NPR1), which is related to the signal molecule salicylic acid (SA) and the expression of pathogenesis-related (PR) genes, is a key regulator of systemic acquired resistance (SAR). …

Biological and structural characterization of a new PLA2 from the Crotalus durissus collilineatus venom.

This protein showed a strong antimicrobial activity against Xanthomonas axonopodis passiforae (Gram-negative), which was drastically reduced by incubation of this PLA2 with p-BPB, but this effect was marginally reduced after treatment with anhydrous acetic acid. Our findings here allow to speculate that basic amino acid …

Its contribution to resistance against Xanthomonas oryzae demonstrates that sulfur-dependent immunity may arise from direct pathogen sensitivity to accumulated inorganic sulfate rather than exclusively from glutathione-mediated redox buffering. Testing carer skill training programs in Spanish carers of patients with eating disorders.

Bacterial leaf blight (BLB) is a major threat to global rice production, leading to yield losses of up to 40% despite extensive disease management practices. The persistence of Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo) necessitates an eco-friendly and effective alternative to synthetic pesticides. This study investigates the bio-control potential of various extracts and essential oils (EO) extracted via hydro-distillation from different plant sources (Ocimum tenuiflorum , Azadirachta indica , Mentha spicata , Trachyspermum ammi, and Garcinia mangostana). Among the tested samples, Trachyspermum ammi …

Constitutive Metabolomic Profiles Linked to Seasonal Climate Niche Adaptation and Resilience to Black Rot in Cabbage.

Plants are dynamic chemical factories that produce diverse specialised metabolites essential for growth, defence, and environmental adaptation. Metabolomes, shaped by genetic architecture, enable plants to respond to abiotic and biotic pressures, including temperature fluctuations. In Brassica systems, warm and humid conditions favour black rot caused by Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris (Xcc), whereas cooler temperatures reduce disease pressure, thus influencing seasonal cultivar deployment. In this study, we investigated whether the constitutive metabolomes of two commercially cultivated…

Possible biocontrol of bacterial blight in pomegranate using native endophytic Bacillus spp. under field conditions.

Bacterial blight in pomegranate, caused by Xanthomonas citri pv. punicae (Xcp), is one of the most devastating diseases, leading to substantial economic losses in pomegranate production. Methods for blight management in pomegranate production are scarce and not well established. To date, the major control strategy is targeting the pathogen with antibiotics and copper-based compounds. However, excessive use of antibiotics has resulted in the development of antibiotic resistance in the field population of Xcp. Hence, as a means of eco-friendly and sustainable management of bacterial blight, the …

Two-Component Signaling System VgrRS Directly Senses Extracytoplasmic and Intracellular Iron to Control Bacterial Adaptation under Iron Depleted Stress.

Both iron starvation and excess are detrimental to cellular life, especially for animal and plant pathogens since they always live in iron-limited environments produced by host immune responses. However, how organisms sense and respond to iron is incompletely understood. Herein, we reveal that in the phytopathogenic bacterium Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris, VgrS (also named ColS) is a membrane-bound receptor histidine kinase that senses extracytoplasmic iron limitation in the periplasm, while its cognate response regulator, VgrR (ColR), detects intracellular iron excess. Under iron-depl…

Over-expression in the nucleotide-binding site-leucine rich repeat gene DEPG1 increases susceptibility to bacterial leaf streak disease in transgenic rice plants.

Bacterial leaf streak of rice (BLS) caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzicola (Xoc) is a widely-spread disease in the main rice-producing areas of the world. Investigating the genes that play roles in rice-Xoc interactions helps us to understand the defense signaling pathway in rice. Here we report a differentially expressed protein gene (DEPG1), which regulates susceptibility to BLS. DEPG1 is a nucleotide-binding site (NBS)-leucine rich repeat (LRR) gene, and the deduced protein sequence of DEPG1 has approximately 64% identity with that of the disease resistance gene Pi37. Phylogenetic analy…
