AIMS: This study aimed to evaluate in vitro activity of β-lactam/β-lactamase inhibitor (BL/BLI) combinations, colistin, tigecycline, and eravacycline against carbapenemase producing Enterobacterales (CPE) uropathogens.
METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 162 urine samples from UTI patients. Enterobacterales isolates were identified using the Remel RapID ONE system. Minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) were determined using Sensititre panels, and carbapenemase genes (blaNDM, blaKPC, and blaOXA-48) were detected by PCR and confirmed by sequencing.

Recently, two new combinations of Beta-lactam antibiotics with Beta-lactamase inhibitors became commercially available in Brazil: piperacillin/tazobactam and ampicillin/sulbactam. A dose-ranging study to investigate the in vivo effects of the presence of specific antibodies on the efficacy of beta-lactam treatment of sepsis caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae (non-beta-lactam-susceptible serotype 6B isolate) was performed with a BALB/c mouse model. Using the chequerboard titration method, the activity in combination of beta-lactams, fluoroquinolones and aminoglycosides was investigated against 24 Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates resistant to these antibiotics.
