AIM: The study was designed to evaluate molecular alterations, relevant to the prognosis and personalized therapy of salivary gland cancers (SGCs).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: DNA was extracted from archival tissue of 40 patients with various SGCs subtypes. A targeted next-generation sequencing (NGS) panel was used for the identification of small-scale mutations, focal and chromosomal arm-level copy number changes. The final analysis included selected genes with potential actionable aberrations for targeted therapies and outcome predictions in 37 tumours' samples.

BACKGROUND: The adenotonsillar hyperplasia is the most relevant cause for the obstructive sleep apnea in children. Since several years laser-assisted tonsillotomy becomes more common as an alternative treatment especially in children having no tonsillitis history. The therapeutical effect of laser-assisted tonsillotomy in combination with the traditional adenotomy treating the obstructive sleep apnea in children has not yet been researched. In addition literature indicates less pain and fast recovery of the children compared to conventional tonsillectomy.

The effect of Adenotonsillectomy on somatic growth was studied prospectively in 57, randomly selected children (31 boys, 26 girls), aged 5.03+/-1.32 (mean+/-1SD) years. The indication for surgery was adenotonsillar hypertrophy with or without recurrent infections. Carinal resection for primary lung cancer was clinical evaluated. Carinal resection was performed in 18 patients. Three patients with facial sensory loss were referred by their general dental practitioners. In the absence of local or systemic factors to account for such symptoms, the dental surgeon should be alert to the possibility of sinister underlying pathology, possibly remote from the jaws. Even in the face of negative special tests, patients should be thoroughly investigated and referred accordingly. Following referral, an exhaustive search should be undertaken for possible causes, particularly for the possibility of metastatic disease.
