INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: We present our 10-year experience in treating stress urinary incontinence (SUI) using a new minisling technique based on a tension-free vaginal tape band designed by our group. The major advantage of this tape is the use of minibelt polypropylene inserted through a single retropubic incision without the use of needles-the Endopelvic Free Anchor (EFA)-based on its location at the midurethra with a U shape. For insertion, each branch is placed using a simple Pean clamp from the vagina with perforation of the endopelvic fascia to achieve a retropubic insertion.

Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is an autosomal-dominant inherited disorder and its prominent feature is the neurofibroma and renal involvement includes renal artery stenosis and renal artery aneurysms causing renovascular hypertension. The genitourinary tract may be rarely involved, leading to urinary symptoms of obstruction and hydronephrosis. Herein, we report a 12-year-old boy with chronic renal failure associated with neurofibromas of the bladder, which leads to urinary obstruction.

Uro-enteric fistulae are difficult clinical conditions that have a significant bearing on the patient's quality of life. Surgical correction, though challenging, is the usual mode of treatment offered to these patients. We report on two patients with urinary schistosomiasis, who both presented within a fortnight to our hospital with similar symptoms of persistent painless haematuria. Ultrasound, cystoscopic biopsies and histology were used to confirm diagnosis. Treatment with praziquantel was given. Symptoms of urinary schistosomiasis can easily be missed in non-endemic areas and possibly confused with a more sinister pathology. A thorough history and awareness of disease can avoid interventional investigations.

Abnormalities of the lower urinary and genital tracts commonly coexist, although congenital vesicovaginal fistula is extremely rare. We report the first case of congenital vesicovaginal fistula and hypoplastic kidney in association with uterine didelphys. Despite extensive investigation throughout childhood, a definitive diagnosis was not made until 16 years of age. We discuss some of the difficulties that might arise in diagnosing a small vesicovaginal fistula in the presence of a fusion abnormality of the genital tract and suggest how such cases might be investigated and managed surgically.

AIM: We report the use of polydimethylsiloxane (PDS-Macroplastique) in endoscopic treatment of urinary incontinence in children with neurogenic bladder and try to determine optimal criteria for patient selection.
METHODS: Forty four children (19 males, 25 females) have been treated since 1995. Aetiology was mainly spina bifida (n = 36). Techniques of oocyte retrieval have progressed from laparoscopy to transvaginal follicular aspiration under ultrasonographic control. This highly efficient method, routinely used nowadays, is not free of complications. We present a case of a ureteral lesion secondary to vaginal ultrasound follicular puncture for oocyte recovery in in-vitro fertilization. Despite the surgical procedure to reimplant the ureter, the patient achieved a twin pregnancy which is ongoing uneventfully.
