We have reviewed 34 children who had been treated by open reduction through a medial incision and transarticular pinning for a severely displaced supracondylar fracture of the humerus. Follow-up ranging from nine months to 20 years showed that 27 of 34 elbows (79%) had excellent or good results, with satisfactory resolution of neurovascular problems and no complications due to the method of treatment.

To find out the cause of posttraumatic varus and valgus deformity of the elbow a long-term follow-up examination of 183 dislocated and 20 undislocated supracondylar extension-fractures of the humerus was done. There were different methods of treatment: In most of the cases closed reduction was performed and fixation in acute angle-plaster or by percutaneous radial or radial and ulnar wires. 75% showed radiologically and 55% clinically an alteration of the carrying angle. The clear reason for this deformity was a rotation displacement, which leads in oblique fractures directly, in transverse fr

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the comparison of curative effects in treating proximal humerus fractures' patients between minimally invasive locking plate internal fixation and open reduction with internal fixation, and to provide guidance for the operation method of the proximal humerus fracture patients.
METHODS: In the study, 157 patients of proximal humerus fractures from May 2006 to December 2012 in Peking University Third Hospital were analyzed retrospectively, of whom 78 were followed up, including 19 males and 59 females. They were from 15 to 90 years old, with the mean age of 60.5 years.

BACKGROUND: Statistics of the arbitration office of the North German Medical Boards show that 30% of all panel proceedings confirm medical malpractices. In panel proceedings concerning the treatment of fractures in children, the percentage rose to 60% with significant differences in the individual fracture localisations.
METHODS: Between the years 2000 and 2010, the arbitration office dealt with 257 panel proceedings regarding the fracture treatment of children. This study evaluates the decisions of 53 proceedings concerning the treatment of fractures and dislocations of the elbow joint.

INTRODUCTION: In our retrospective study we compared the outcomes of paediatric lateral condyle fractures of the elbow fixed by bioabsorbable pins and tension-band sutures or by metallic tension-band with K-wires.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We reviewed the data of children operated on for lateral condyle fractures between 2010 and 2020. Patients were classified as follows: 1. fractures treated with metallic (KW group), 2. fractures treated with resorbable implants (BR group). We compared the distribution of age, sex and fracture type in each group. Operative times of the two techniques were also

PURPOSE: Long-term nonunion of the lateral humeral condyle (LHC) can result in progressive cubitus valgus, elbow pain, instability, and delayed ulnar nerve palsy. Various techniques have been proposed for correction, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. The purpose of this study was to introduce a lateral open wedge osteotomy (LOWO) procedure combined with in situ osteosynthesis of nonunited LHC for the treatment of long-term LHC nonunion with cubitus valgus deformity.
METHODS: We evaluated 18 pediatric patients who had a cubitus valgus deformity greater than 10 degrees after nonun

UNLABELLED: We examined links between markers of social inequality and fracture risk in the Danish population, demonstrating that high income and being married are associated with a significantly lower risk.
INTRODUCTION: We explored whether the risk of hip, humerus, and wrist fracture was associated with markers of inequality using data from Danish health registries.
METHODS: All patients 50 years or older with a primary hip (ICD10 S720, S721, S722, and S729) humerus (ICD10 S422, S423, S424, S425, S426, and S427), or wrist (ICD10: S52) fracture were identified from 1/1/1995 to 31/12/2011. F

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY Olecranon fractures in skeletally immature patients are rather rare and represent up to 7% of elbow skeletal injuries. Although the majority of olecranon fractures is constituted by undisplaced fractures treated conservatively with good outcomes, a few of them require surgery. The aim of the study was to compare two different approaches of surgical treatment - the open reduction with tension band wiring - cerclage (ORCe) and the closed reduction and percutaneous pinning (CRPP). MATERIAL AND METHODS 37 patients (28 boys, 9 girls) were included in the retrospective multicent

BACKGROUND: Knowledge of surgical outcome and its predictors helps inform patients and aids in surgical decision-making. We aimed to assess the outcome-reoperation and systemic complication rate-of surgery for humeral metastases, myeloma, or lymphoma. Our null hypothesis was that there are no factors associated with these outcomes.
METHODS: We included 295 consecutive patients in this retrospective study: 134 (45%) proximal, 131 (44%) diaphyseal, and 30 (10%) distal impending or pathologic fractures. Proximal lesions were treated by intramedullary nailing (43%, n = 57), prosthesis (34%, n = 4

BACKGROUND: Fractures of the medial humeral epicondyle are common, yet there is no consensus on the most effective treatment method. Both casting alone and open reduction with internal fixation have been shown to promote reliable healing, but there is limited evidence supporting the superiority of either approach. The aim of this study is to assess the variation in treatment approaches for MEF and to identify which patient characteristics or hospital factors influence a surgeon's decision to perform surgery.
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study to evaluate treatment variations b

BACKGROUND: Radial nerve injury after operative treatment of humeral shaft fracture usually improves, but a subgroup of patients does not recover. Understanding the probability of recovery over time is important in deciding on watchful waiting, nerve exploration, or tendon or nerve transfer. Bayesian analysis is helpful in estimating such probabilities. This type of analysis is predicated on estimating the probability that an event will occur and subsequently updating that estimate as new information becomes available-for instance, when nerve recovery does not occur over time.

Worldwide, a great deal of disability is caused by musculoskeletal injuries from high-energy trauma. In nations affected by war, blast injuries associated with mines, missiles, high-powered gunshots, and bombings are one cause of these injuries. Medical missions carried out by those from developed nations is one way to address this. Therefore, it is critical that those who participate in these missions maintain a basic understanding the injuries that may be encountered in nations affected by war and violent conflict. We describe a small number of upper-extremity injuries seen by one orthopedic

HYPOTHESIS: This study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the fixation of Dubberley type B capitellar and trochlear fractures using dorsolateral anatomic plates with support of the distal humerus (DAPSDHs).
METHODS: Fifteen patients with Dubberley type B capitellar and trochlear fractures (two type 1B, five type 2B, and eight type 3B) were treated through the extended lateral approach, and fixation was achieved with DAPSDHs. Radiographic evaluation was performed, and range of motion of the elbow and forearm was recorded. Functional outcomes were assessed using the Mayo Elbow Perform

BACKGROUND: The optimal treatment for pediatric lateral condyle fractures displaced >2 mm, but with little joint displacement is unclear. The purpose of this study was to assess clinical and radiographic outcomes and complication rates of patients undergoing open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) versus closed reduction and percutaneous pin fixation (CRPP) of lateral condyle fractures with >2 mm of displacement and no obvious articular surface incongruity.
METHODS: A retrospective review of all children with acute lateral condyle fractures with 2.1 to 5.0 mm of displacement treated from 2006

BACKGROUND: Pediatric supracondylar fracture and forearm bone fracture is common in isolation but combined supracondylar fracture with ipsilateral forearm bone fracture, known as floating elbow is not common injury. The incidence of this association varies between 3% and 13%. Since the injury is rare and only limited literatures are available, choosing best management options for floating elbow is challenging.
METHOD: In retrospective review of 759 consecutive supracondylar fracture managed in between July 2005 to June 2011, children with combined supracondylar fracture with forearm bone inju
