Alpha synuclein (αsyn) fibrils are found in the Lewy Bodies of patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). The aggregation of the αsyn monomer to soluble oligomers and insoluble fibril aggregates is believed to be one of the causes of PD. Recently, the view of the native state of αsyn as a monomeric ensemble was challenged by a report suggesting that αsyn exists in its native state as a helical tetramer. As very limited data are available on the clinical use of antioxidants for mania, we report here results from a post hoc and exploratory subgroup analysis of a randomized, placebo-controlled trial of N-acetyl cysteine (NAC).

Sow milk contains a high basal level of the lysosomal enzyme N-acetyl-β-D-glucosaminidase (NAGase). The level is extremely high in colostrum. High basal levels seem to hide inflammatory changes. Therefore NAGase did not prove to be as good an indicator for porcine agalactia syndrome as reported for mastitic bovine or ovine milk.

The possibility that lysosomal enzymes might be involved as angiogenic factors in ocular neovascularization (NV) was investigated. Beta-N-acetyl-glucosaminidase (NAGase) activity, and that of two other glycosidases, were present in the retinal derived protein fraction (RDPF) reported by others to be angiogenic.
