Skin Thermal Management for Subcutaneous Photoelectric Conversion Reaching 500 mW.

Despite possessing higher tissue transmittance and maximum permissible exposure power density for skin relative to other electromagnetic waves, second near-infrared light (1000-1350 nm) is scarcely applicable to subcutaneous photoelectric conversion, owing to the companion photothermal effect. Here, skin thermal management is conceived to utmostly utilize the photothermal effect of a photovoltaic cell, which not only improves the photoelectric conversion efficiency but also eliminates skin hyperthermia. In vivo, the output power can be higher than 500 mW with a photoelectric conversion efficie

Quality-by-Design Approach for Investigating the Efficacy of Tacrolimus and Hyaluronic Acid-Loaded Ethosomal Gel in Dermal Management of Psoriasis: In Vitro, Ex Vivo, and In Vivo Evaluation.

Psoriasis is an auto-immune condition with high keratinocyte hyperproliferation due to lower p53 and p22 levels. Tacrolimus, an immune suppressor, is considered one of the most effective drugs in suppressing psoriasis. Systematic administration of tacrolimus often leads to challenging side effects, namely increased infection risk, renal toxicity, neurological symptoms such as tremors and headaches, gastrointestinal disturbances, hypertension, skin-related problems, etc. To address this, a nanocarrier-based formulation of tacrolimus along with inclusion of hyaluronic acid was developed. The opt

Droplette: A Platform Technology to Directly Deliver Nucleic Acid Therapeutics and Other Molecules into Cells and Deep into Tissue Without Transfection Reagents.

Droplette (US 9,700,686 B2 and PCT/US2016/035695) is the first portable and contact-free transdermal technology comprising the unique combination of a piezoelectric transducer and a pneumatic diaphragm pump to deliver large biomolecules including nucleic acid therapeutics (NATs) deep into cells, and into skin and soft tissue for effective delivery over short timescales. The droplets that come out of the device are 10-50× smaller upon impact than what is created through other commercial atomizers, such as the piezoelectric transducer alone. This device has been tested extensively in vitro, in v

Recent advances on transdermal delivery systems for the treatment of arthritic injuries: From classical treatment to nanomedicines.

Arthritic injuries happen frequently during a lifetime due to accidents, sports, aging, diseases, etc. Such injuries can be cartilage/bone injuries, tendon injuries, ligament injuries, inflammation, pain, and/or synovitis. Oral and injective administration of therapeutics are typically used but cause many side effects. Transdermal administration is an alternative route for safe and efficient delivery. Transdermal formulations of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs have been available on market for years and show promising efficacy in pain relieving, inflammation alleviation, infection contro

Formulation, characterization of glucosamine loaded transfersomes and in vivo evaluation using papain induced arthritis model.

The aim of current study was to develop the transdermal transfersomes of glucosamine for better drug delivery. Stretch ability and plasticity of transfersomes membranes mitigate the risk of vesicle rupture in the skin and allows the drug carrying transfersome to pass through the epidermis following the natural water gradient. Transdermal delivery of Glucosamine has an advantage over oral route, having greater local concentration and fewer systemic effects. Thin Film Rotary method was use to prepare transfersomes, and characterization was carried out physio-chemically using electron microscopic

Coenzyme Q10 phospholipidic vesicular formulations for treatment of androgenic alopecia: ex vivo permeation and clinical appraisal.

INTRODUCTION: Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is an antioxidant molecule with anti-aging activity on human hair, and because of its pharmaceutical limitations such as large molecular weight, high lipophilicity and poor water solubility, its therapeutic effectiveness has been hampered. Therefore, different vesicular nanocarriers were developed in the current work, for enhancement of the skin penetration of CoQ10 for treatment of androgenic alopecia. AREAS COVERED: In order to overcome the poor skin penetration of CoQ10, it was formulated in liposomes, transfersomes, ethosomes, cerosomes and transethosome

Game Changer in Acne Treatment.

Of the four primary pathogenic factors that drive acne vulgaris—androgen excess, increased sebum production, faulty keratinization, and overgrowth of C. acnes—androgen excess has been the most elusive therapeutic target. Oral contraceptive pills (OCPs) have direct effect on circulating hormones, but their potential use is limited to a subset of women. As such, a sizable portion of the population affected by acne vulgaris cannot even consider treatment with OCPs. While these systemic agents are generally associated with a low risk profile and have a history of safe and effective use

Retinoids in Acne Management: Review of Current Understanding, Future Considerations, and Focus on Topical Treatments.

Acne vulgaris is the most common skin condition affecting adolescents and young adults with a tremendous psychosocial impact. Its pathogenic hallmarks include follicular dyskeratosis, increased sebum production, and inflammation induced by Cutibacterium (formerly Propionibacterium) acnes within the follicle. Retinoids, derived from vitamin A, are the mainstays of acne treatment given they address the key pathogenic pathways of acne. Retinoids exert their effects through the binding of their nuclear receptors leading to downstream biological effects. The understanding of retinoid pharmacology h

Assessing the Potential Role for Topical Melatonin in an Antiaging Skin Regimen.

Melatonin is an endogenous hormone commonly associated with regulation of sleep. However, over the last two decades, research has elucidated a range of effects associated with the compound, including anti-inflammatory, both direct and indirect antioxidant activity, tissue regenerative benefits, and preservation of mitochondrial function. Melatonin's anti-inflammatory and antioxidant support, coupled with its mitochondrial support, make it an intriguing target for use to support skin health. Human skin and hair follicles express functional melatonin receptors. They also engage in substantial me
