A case of deletion of the short arm of chromosome 3 (46,XY,del(3)(p253) is described. The patient is a youth of 18 years in an institution for the mentally retarded. Phenotypically, he presents congenital heart disease, hypertelorism, ptosis, epicanthus, blepharophimosis, strabismus, nystagmus, synophrys, low-set ears, frequent infections, epilepsy (abnormal EEG and grand mal seizures), "rocker bottom" feet, flat occiput and muscular hypotonia. The parents are healthy and with normal karyotypes. A silent allele in the GPT system was found in the mother, the propositus and 4 of the 5 siblings.

We describe a 3-year-old male with deletion of part of 6q. The karyotype was 46,XY,del(6q) in both lymphocytes and skin fibroblasts. The patient had: frontal bossing, epicanthal folds, broad nasal bridge, apparently low-set and posteriorly angulated ears, micrognathia, cardiac defects, cleft palate, unusual digital anomalies, developmental retardation, and obstructive sleep apnea.

PURPOSE: To explore available literature profiling the role of somatosensation on arm function after stroke; from somatosensation to sensorimotor function, arm use, and participation.
METHODS: Studies were included if they had a standardised measure of somatosensation of the arm, in combination with a standardised measure of sensorimotor function, arm use, and/or participation. Ten databases were searched. Outcome measures were classified relative to the International Classification of Functioning framework and somatosensory function was categorised according to which somatosensory modality w…

STUDY QUESTION: What are the clinical and logistical predictors of sperm viability in posthumous sperm retrieval (PHSR), and how do post-mortem interval (PMI), body refrigeration, and mechanism of death affect outcomes?
SUMMARY ANSWER: Shorter PMI and body refrigeration significantly enhance post-mortem sperm viability, with the mechanism of death modulating viability patterns in a time-dependent manner.
WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: PHSR has gained increasing prominence in reproductive medicine, yet technical aspects remain under-researched. Key questions regarding optimal timing, storage conditio

BACKGROUND: The Indian Armed Forces is an extremely fit fighting force. However, due to some factors like injuries or lack of physical activities, a very small percentage of serving population, who fall under the morbidly obese category, is offered bariatric surgery if diet changes and exercises fail to achieve satisfactory weight reduction. In the absence of a study to look into this cohort who have undergone bariatric surgery, a need is felt to estimate the effects of bariatric surgery on body mass index (BMI), co-morbidities and employability of these patients.
METHODS: This is a retrospec…

This paper introduces a novel approach to robotic assistance in bottle opening using the dual-arm robot TIAGo++. The solution enhances accessibility by addressing the needs of individuals with injuries or disabilities who may require help with common manipulation tasks. The aim of this paper is to propose a method involving vision, manipulation, and learning techniques to effectively address the task of bottle opening. The process begins with the acquisition of bottle and cap positions using an RGB-D camera and computer vision. Subsequently, the robot picks the bottle with one gripper and grip…

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Like in the general population, the prevalences of eating- and weight-related health issues in the armed forces are increasing. Relevant medical conditions include the eating disorders (EDs) anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID), as well as body dysmorphic disorder, muscle dysmorphia, and the relative energy deficiency in sport (RED-S) syndrome.
METHODS: We performed a narrative literature review on eating- and weight-related disorders in the armed forces.
RESULTS: Entry standards might exclude p…

The treatment of psychotrauma is based on two main aspects, pharmacological and psychotherapeutic, in accordance with national and international recommendations on psychotherapy, which recommend the use of different techniques, depending on the time frame of the psychotraumatic event or events. The principles of psychological support are based on three phases: immediate, post-medical and long-term. Therapeutic patient education brings added value to the psychological care of psychotraumatized people.

Antibiotic resistance is a serious threat to public health. Here, we propose a multi-armed chemical scaffold (MACS) for antibiotic screening, which refers to multi-armed molecules (MAMs) consisting of a core unit and three or four arms, neither of which is active for pathogens. Based on a structure-activity relationship study of MAMs, we discover a class of multi-armed antibiotics (MAAs) with a core similar to ethylene (E), carbon atom (C), benzene (B), nitrogen atom (N), and triazine (T) and three or four 4-phenylbenzoic acid (PBA) arms, or a B core and three 4-vinylbenzoic acid (VBA) or 4-et…

BACKGROUND: In the UK military, adjustment disorder (AjD) is reported as one of the most diagnosed mental disorders, alongside depression, in personnel presenting to mental health services. Despite this, little is understood about what may predict AjD, common treatment or outcomes for this population.
AIM: The systematic review aimed to summarise existing research for AjD in Armed Forces (AF) populations, including prevalence and risk factors, and to outline clinical and occupational outcomes.
METHOD: A literature search was conducted in December 2020 to identify research that investigated A…
