The food enzyme AMP deaminase (AMP aminohydrolase; EC 3.5.4.6) is produced with the genetically modified Bacillus subtilis strain CCTCC M 2023264 by Angel Yeast Co., Ltd. The production strain of the food enzyme contains multiple copies of three acquired antimicrobial resistance genes, therefore it does not fulfil the requirements of the qualified presumption of safety approach to safety assessment. However, considering the absence of viable cells and DNA from the production organism in the food enzyme, this is not considered to be a risk. As no other concerns arising from the microbial source

This study characterized Bacillus subtilis (B. subtilis) BS-Q as a novel probiotic candidate against Clostridium perfringens (C. perfringens). Polyphasic analysis, including 16S rRNA gene sequencing (>99% similarity to reference B. subtilis strains), identified the isolate as BS-Q. It exhibited robust growth, and sporulation was observed. Its cell-free supernatant (CFS) demonstrated potent, broad-spectrum inhibition against C. perfringens types A, C, and G with a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 33.06 ± 0.53 μg/mL. The antibacterial activity was localized to the CFS and showed remarka

Bacillus subtilis is one of the most widely used plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB), but the optimal method and timing of its application under abiotic stress have not been systematically compared across different stress types within a single experimental framework. Here, we evaluated the effect of B. subtilis strain GMG1288 on spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) under three abiotic stresses-soil salinity, PEG-induced osmotic stress, and heavy metal contamination-comparing 13 application variants (seed inoculation, and single or multiple watering with the bacterial suspension) applied at d

Extracellular reductive dechlorination of chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons (CAHs) by non-electroactive bacteria is rarely investigated. In this study, we demonstrated that common bacteria Gram-positive Bacillus subtilis (B. subtilis) and Gram-negative Escherichia coli (E. coli) in aqueous suspensions (1.2 × 108 cells per mL) could dechlorinate a model CAH compound hexachloroethane (HCE, initial 40 µmol L-1) at ratios of 83.7% and 54.1% respectively to pentachloroethane (PCE) and tetrachloroethylene (TCE) after 56 h incubation at pH 7.0 and 30 °C. The majority of the parent compound (HCE) and

The roles of Enterococcus faecium (E. faecium), Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis), and Bacillus subtilis (B. subtilis) in colitis remain poorly defined, with existing literature presenting inconsistent and often contradictory evidence. This study aimed to elucidate their contributions to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) using both infectious (non-typhoidal Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium, S. typhimurium) and chemical (dextran sulfate sodium, DSS)-induced colitis models. Colitis was induced in C57BL/6 mice via a single oral dose of S. typhimurium (ATCC14028) and/or administration of D

Largemouth bass virus (LMBV) is a major pathogen threatening the aquaculture of largemouth bass, causing significant economic losses. Oral vaccination offers a practical and efficient strategy for disease prevention in farmed fish. In this study, a fusion CotC-MCP-3 gene was introduced into Bacillus subtilis 168 (Bs168) to enable surface display of the MCP-3 protein on bacterial spores through the anchoring protein CotC, thereby generating a candidate oral vaccine. At 28 days post-vaccination (dpv), qPCR analysis revealed pronounced upregulation of associated innate and adaptive immunity genes

Spore inactivation remains a major challenge in food sterilization. In this study, the structural damage and inactivation of Bacillus subtilis spores were systematically compared under dry heat, saturated steam, and wet heat treatments. Increasing moisture content significantly intensified heat-induced damage to the spore coat and inner membrane and promoted cortex hydrolysis. RHS values increased by 39.68 % after dry heat at 240 °C, whereas increases of 42.98 % and 47.09 % were observed after saturated steam and wet heat at 121 °C, respectively. Elevated moisture also enhanced the exposure of

Pyrethroid residues in the environment and agricultural products have caused significant negative effects on food safety and human health. In this study, a novel strain of Bacillus subtilis J6, isolated from the cecum of broilers, exhibited the ability to degrade cypermethrin and its major metabolite, 3-phenoxybenzoic acid. The identified intermediates indicated that B. subtilis J6 degrades cypermethrin through ester bond hydrolysis, benzene hydroxylation, and ether bond cleavage. Predictive toxicology analysis suggested that this degradation process effectively reduces toxicity. Transcriptomi

Ultraviolet (UV) -C is widely used to kill bacteria as it damages chromosomal DNA. We analyzed the denaturation of the protein function of Bacillus subtilis spores after UV-C irradiation. Almost all of the B. subtilis spores germinated in Luria-Bertani (LB) liquid medium, but the colony-forming unit (CFU) of the spores on LB agar plates decreased to approximately 1/103 by 100 mJ/cm2 of UV-C irradiation. Some of the spores germinated in LB liquid medium under phase-contrast microscopy, but almost no colonies formed on the LB agar plates after 1 J/cm2 of UV-C irradiation. The fluorescence of the

Malaria remains a widespread public health problem in tropical and subtropical regions around the world, and there is still no vaccine available for full protection. In recent years, it has been observed that spores of Bacillus subtillis can act as a vaccine carrier and adjuvant, promoting an elevated humoral response after co-administration with antigens either coupled or integrated to their surface. In our study, B. subtillis spores from the KO7 strain were used to couple the recombinant CSP protein of P. falciparum (rPfCSP), and the nasal humoral-induced immune response in Balb/C mice was e

Herein, Bacillus subtilis PBE-8's biocontrol efficacy was evaluated through physiological and metabolic approaches against Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. lycopersici (FOL). The study elaborates on PBE-8's cell-free filtrate (CFF) antifungal activity through mycelial growth inhibition, metabolite profiling, and substrates utilization patterns. Additionally, under different CFF concentrations, reduction in spore count (94%-55%), biomass (50%), and cytoplasmic bulbous protrusions in mycelia were also observed. Furthermore, the effect of bacterial CFF on FOL metabolism was confirmed through GC-MS. CFF s

The S. Enteritidis causes serious economic losses to the poultry industry every year. Vaccines that induce a mucosal immune response may be successful against an S. Enteritidis infection because mucosa plays an important role in preventing S. Enteritidis from entering the body. In order to develop novel and potent oral vaccines based on Bacillus subtilis (B. subtilis) to control the spread of S. Enteritidis in the poultry industry, we constructed a B. subtilis that can secrete a multi-epitope protein (OmpC-FliC-SopF-SseB-IL-18). Oral immunization of chickens was performed, and serum antibodies

Our previous research reported that supplementation of Bacillus subtilis DSM 25841 promoted growth and disease resistance of weaned pigs under enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) challenge and its efficacy is comparable to carbadox. This follow-up study aimed to characterize the effects of ETEC infection, supplementing B. subtilis DSM 25841 or carbadox on intestinal microbiota of pigs. Forty-eight weaned pigs (6.17 ± 0.36 kg BW) were randomly allotted to one of four treatments: negative control (NC), positive control (PC), antibiotics (AGP, 50 mg/kg of carbadox), and direct fed microbials

Microaerobic cultivation conditions have been shown experimentally and theoretically to improve the performance of a number of bioproduction systems. However, under these conditions, the production of l-valine by Escherichia coli is decreased mainly because of a redox cofactor imbalance and a decreased l-glutamate supply. The synthesis of one mole of l-valine from one mole of glucose generates two moles of NADH via glycolysis but consumes a total of two moles of NADPH, one in the ketol-acid reductoisomerase (KARI) reaction and the other in the regeneration of l-glutamate as an amino group dono

Fusarium wilt is a devastating soil-borne disease caused mainly by highly host-specific formae speciales of Fusarium oxysporum. Antagonistic microorganisms play a very important role in Fusarium wilt control, and the isolation of potential biocontrol strains is becoming more and more important. We isolated a bacterial strain (SEM-9) from the high-temperature stage of silkworm excrement composting, which had a marked ability to solubilize phosphorus, promote the growth and increase the yield of the small Chinese cabbage, and which also exhibited considerable antagonistic effect towards Fusarium

Recombinant Bacillus subtilis endospores have been used to vaccinate against tetanus and anthrax. In this work, we have developed spores that could be used to vaccinate against Clostridium perfringens alpha toxin and that could be used to protect against gas gangrene in humans and necrotic enteritis in poultry. The primary active agent in both cases is alpha toxin. A carboxy-terminal segment of the alpha toxin gene (cpa) fused to the glutathione-S-transferase (GST) gene was cloned in B. subtilis such that the encoded GST-Cpa(247-370) polypeptide had been expressed in the following three differ
