Absolute stereochemistries of the resulting secondary homoallylic-propargylic alcohols were assigned using Rychnovsky's competing enantioselective conversion method.

The title compound, C35H22ClNO7, is a non-liquid crystal with a bent-shaped mol-ecule. The dihedral angles between adjacent aromatic rings in the mol-ecule (starting from the cyano-benzene ring) are 72.61 (2), 87.69 (4), 64.08 (2) and 88.23 (2)°, indicating that adjacent rings are close to perpendicular to each other. In the crystal, the mol-ecules are linked by weak C-H⋯N and C-H⋯π inter-actions, thereby forming a two-dimensional supra-molecular architecture in the ac plane. Exclusion diets may have a practical place in determining the precipitating dietary factors in certain clinical conditions. We present an exclusion diet which is based on the exclusion of food commonly known to cause food allergies, and the exclusion of food which contains salicylates, benzoates, tartrazine, yeast, and penicillin. This provided a basis for challenge with these additives and natural chemicals. Preliminary information in urticaria suggests a use for this diet in some allergic conditions.

The wide bore capillary column HP-1701(15 m x 0.53 mm i.d. x 1.0 micron) has been used to analyze benzyl alcohol, methyl-p-hydroxy benzoate, ethyl-p-hydroxy benzoate, propyl-p-hydroxy benzoate, and butyl-p-hydroxy benzoate in cosmetics. The results showed that these preservatives could be separated with the capillary column completely and their peaks were not interfered with those of other components in cosmetics.
