A low cost method for the screening of six polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and seven polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in biological samples containing up to 100% of fat is presented. Compounds are extracted from the sample and isolated from lipids using a matrix solid-phase dispersion (MSPD) cartridge and 20 ml of n-hexane as elution solvent. PBDEs and PCBs are fractionated on a second cartridge containing 2 g of a normal phase sorbent. A series of novel 5,5-dimethyl-benzo[h]quinazolin-4(1H)-one derivatives bearing thioalkynyl and amino substituents were synthesized starting from ethyl 1-amino-3,3-dimethyl-3,4-dihydronaphthalene-2-carboxylate. Cariniana rubra, native to the Brazilian Cerrado and the Amazon-Cerrado ecotone, is traditionally used in folk medicine but remains underexplored. This study optimized extraction yield and bioactive compound content using ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) and Soxhlet extraction. This study implemented an acid-catalyzed ethanol methodology for depolymerizing Chinese quince fruit (CQF) lignin, intending to enhance its antioxidant properties and lipophilicity to serve as a natural antioxidant for biodiesel. However, its male reproductive toxicity and underlying mechanism remains unclear. In vivo, male mice were gavaged with CDP (0, 4, 20, or 100 mg/kg/d) for 8 weeks. Films have been prepared from the natural antioxidant gallic acid and a proteinaceous source, the discarded emulsion obtained after cataract surgery referred to as the cataractous eye protein isolate (CEPI). Fourier transform spectroscopy (FTIR) and SDS PAGE studies confirmed the crosslinking of gallic acid with CEPI. Antioxidant activity (AO) of commercial propolis extracts (PEs), available on Serbian market, was determined by direct current (DC) polarography. Polarographic anodic current of 5.0 mmol L(-1) alkaline solution of H2O2 was recorded at potentials of mercury dissolution. Decrease of the current was plotted against the volume of gradually added PEs. The volume of PE causing 20% current decrease was determined from the linear part of the plot.
