Fusobacterium nucleatum is a rod-shaped gram-negative obligate anaerobe; this organism, and other anaerobes, are usually not a part of the culture performed for a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) sample. To date, four cases of Fusobacterium meningitis in adults have been published. We report successful treatment of a case of primary meningitis due to Fusobacterium nucleatum in an otherwise healthy 72-year-old male.

Over the past decade, the Anti-Microbial Resistance (AMR) among members of Enterobacteriaceae family is on rise mainly due to rapid spread of strains producing Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamases (ESBLs) and Metallo Beta-Lactamases (MBLs). Hence, the choice of drugs available for these resistant strains is diminishing and their treatment is becoming more challenging. This is a case of complicated Urinary Tract Infection (cUTI) due to ESBL producing E. coli leading to septic shock which was successfully managed with Antibiotic Adjuvant Entity (AAE), a combination of ceftriaxone+sulbactam+EDTA.

The role of adjunctive corticosteroids remains controversial in meningitis by penicillin-resistant pneumococci. We determined the effect of adjunctive corticosteroids in adults with pneumococcal meningitis in a region with a high rate of penicillin resistance. A multicenter, retrospective cohort study was conducted between 1998 and 2008 in Korea. The mortality and neurological sequelae were evaluated. Administration of ceftriaxone for 5 days has been shown to be highly efficient in the treatment of severe shigellosis in children. Our study, involving 40 children, demonstrated that a 2-day course of ceftriaxone was as beneficial as a 5-day course and constituted effective therapy for children with severe shigellosis.

One hundred thirty-three febrile episodes in 115 neutropenic patients with hematologic malignancies were empirically treated with ceftriaxone and amikacin in a single daily dose.
