The mothers' perceptions of the emotional and social stresses experienced by families who have children suffering from spina bifida, cerebral palsy or a limb deficiency, and the mothers' suggestions for easing situations that were causing them concern are recorded in this study. Statistics show that more than half the victims of child abuse have fractures. The orthopedic surgeon will often be the first person to identify a potentially abused child. In a series at Brenner Children's Hospital, 17% of abused children had a fracture as the initial manifestation of child abuse. BACKGROUND: Medical Child Abuse (MCA) is a severe form of child abuse. In MCA, the caregiver abuses the child by exaggerating, fabricating, simulating, or inducing symptoms, and unnecessary, potentially harmful medical care harms the child. Bleeding is one of the most common manifestations of MCA. Diagnosis of MCA is challenging, and late diagnosis may increase the severity and complications. Once suspected, it is essential to apply all relevant methods of investigation to support and confirm the diagnosis, as soon as possible, as late diagnosis increases the risks.

The authors separated 100 children hospitalized in a child psychiatry service into three groups according to their level of anxiety on the basis of the responses of the children and their parents to diagnostic interviews. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the factors influencing the development of portal hypertensive gastropathy (PHG) with liver fibrosis in schistosomiasis japonica.
METHODS: A retrospective study was executed on 196 hospitalized patients with schistosomiasis liver fibrosis (109 of them complicated with PHG) from 1998 to 2002.
