INTRODUCTION: Our main goals were to study the survival of patients with uveal melanomas involving the ciliary body 5 and 10 years after treatment and to review prognosis.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: This study investigated 106 tumors (27 ciliary body melanomas and 79 choroidal-ciliary melanomas) of patients treated between June 1983 and April 1998. UNLABELLED: Therapeutic success in neovascular glaucoma with conservative and surgical methods is sadly inadequate. Based on the encouraging results we have obtained with transconjunctival cyclocryothermy in primary glaucoma and with peripheral cryopexy (transconjunctival cryotherapy), we applied these two methods in combination to treat neovascular glaucoma.
PATIENTS: A total of 25 eyes in 23 patients were treated with the above method. The average preoperative bulbar pressure was 43 mmHg.
RESULTS: The highest average reduction of pressure was obtained in weeks 2-4 after treatment (20 mmHg)

Transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) has recently been found in the aqueous humor. The present study was initiated to test whether the ciliary-body epithelium, the site of aqueous humor formation, is capable of producing TGF-beta. Human, rat and bovine ciliary epithelial cells were grown in tissue culture and their supernatants were tested for TGF-beta using a bioassay.
