Comparison of modern light-curing hybrid resin-based composites to the tooth structure: Static and dynamic mechanical parameters.

The study aims to compare the way modern resin-based composites (RBCs) respond to mechanical stress related to the tooth structure they are designed to replace. Eight representative light-cured RBCs, including ormocers, giomers, RBCs with nano and agglomerated nanoparticles, prepolymerized, or compact fillers, were selected. Flexural strength, FS and modulus/E, were measured in a three-point bending test. A fractographic analysis determined the origin of fracture. The quasi-static (indentation hardness/HIT , indentation modulus/EIT ) and viscoelastic (storage modulus/E', loss modulus/E″, loss

Modified montmorillonite synergizes with Co-MOF@PBO fabric to improve the wear resistance of PBO/phenolic resin composites.

Co-MOF (cobased metal-organic frame) nanosheets were developed onto the surface of PBO (poly(p-phenylene benzobisoxazole)) fabric, and OMMT (modified montmorillonite) was incorporated into phenolic resin synergistically to improve the wear resistance of PBO/phenolic resin composites. Co-MOF nanosheets with a large specific surface area exhibited strong interlocking and excellent compatibility between the fabric and resin. In addition, OMMT possessed excellent affinity with phenolic resin and a larger lamellar space, and then polymer chains could be conveniently entangled into interlayers, whic

Effects of alternatively used thermal treatments on the mechanical and fracture behavior of dental resin composites with varying filler content.

The purpose of this study was two-fold: (i) to investigate whether the thermal treatment of direct dental resin composites (RCs) using microwave or autoclave heating cycles would modify the materials' strength as compared to the protocol without heating (control); and (ii) to compare the mechanical performance of direct and indirect RCs. Three RCs (from 3M ESPE) were tested: one indirect (Sinfony); and two direct materials (microhybrid - Filtek Z250; and nanofilled - Filtek Z350). Specimens from the direct RCs were prepared and randomly allocated into three groups according to the thermal trea

A 3-year clinical study of a hybrid composite resin as fissure sealant and as restorative material for Class I restorations.

After 3 years, 78.0% of 64 reexamined fissure restorations (extended sealants) and small occlusal restorations were clinically acceptable or excellent, and 21.9% had to be repaired or replaced because they had fractured (6.3%) or were no longer clinically acceptable by some other criterion (15.6%). The conservative preventive resin restoration seems to be an effective treatment for small occlusal defects. Meticulous dental hygiene by the patient and regular examinations by the dentist are mandatory.

One-Year Clinical Performance of Injectable and Paste-Type Composite Resins in Non-Carious Cervical Lesions Prepared with Er,Cr:YSGG Laser and Acid Etching: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs) are common defects in adults that can lead to dentin hypersensitivity and aesthetic concerns, for which composite resin restorations currently represent the gold standard of care. However, evidence regarding the long-term clinical superiority of high-filled injectable composites and Er,Cr:YSGG laser-based cavity preparation remains limited. The present study aimed to compare the 1-year clinical performance of two different surface preparation protocols (Er,Cr:YSGG laser vs. conventional bur preparation with phosphoric acid etching) an

Multifunctional dental resin composites enabled by QPEI-and TA-functionalized ZnO nanofillers with antibacterial and calcium-phosphate deposition properties.

To impart antibacterial activity and calcium-phosphate deposition capability to dental resin composites (DRCs) and thereby reduce the risk of secondary caries, zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) were surface-functionalized with quaternized polyethyleneimine (QPEI) and tannic acid (TA), yielding two functional nanofillers, termed ZQ and ZT, respectively. The modified nanoparticles were incorporated into DRCs, and their physicochemical properties, cytocompatibility, antibacterial performance, and calcium-phosphate deposition behavior were systematically evaluated. The results demonstrated that c

Acrylic acid functionalized silica composite resin for selective recovery of Ru from simulated high-level liquid waste.

The selective and efficient separation of ruthenium from high-level liquid waste (HLLW) will not only benefit the resource shortage of Ru, a member of platinum group metal, but also advancing the nuclear fuel cycle. However, the separation and recovery of Ru(III) from HLLW faces challenges due to its complex speciation in nitric acid, intense radioactivity, complex competing ions of HLLW. Herein, an acrylic acid functionalized silica composite resin (AA/SiO2) was synthesized via in-situ polymerization for selective adsorption of Ru(III) from simulated HLLW. AA/SiO2 achieved a maximum adsorptio

Preparation and evaluation of a ternary thiol-yne-dimethacrylate dental resin composite exhibiting low stress and high mechanical performance.

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to comparatively evaluate whether the incorporation of multifunctional thiol‑ene or thiol‑yne resin systems into conventional dimethacrylate‑based DRCs offers greater advantages in achieving both low polymerization shrinkage stress and high mechanical strength. The first hypothesis was that increasing the thiol‑ene and thiol‑yne content would promote the interaction between dimethacrylates and the thiol‑ene or thiol‑yne reaction pathways, thereby reducing polymerization shrinkage stress while maintaining adequate mechanical properties. The second hypothesis was tha
