Chemical composition and in vitro/in vivo antisaprolegniosis efficacy of Satureja Bachtiarica and Achillea Talagonica essential oils on rainbow trout eggs.

The rising prevalence of fungal infections in aquaculture, combined with the high cost, adverse side effects, and increasing resistance associated with synthetic antifungal agents, has stimulated interest in natural alternatives. This study investigated the chemical composition and antifungal activity of essential oils derived from Satureja bachtiarica Bunge and Achillea talagonica Boiss against Saprolegnia parasitica, the causative agent of saprolegniosis. Gas chromatography- mass spectrometry analysis revealed that the predominant constituents of the S. bachtiarica essential oil were carvacr

Ligand modification for the tuning of activity and selectivity in the chemoselective transfer hydrogenation of α,β-unsaturated carbonyls using EtOH as a hydrogen source.

The selective reduction of α,β-unsaturated ketones, either at the olefinic or the carbonyl site, offers attractive synthetic opportunities. While carbonyl reduction is well established, selective olefin reduction is less common, particularly when using environmentally friendly ethanol as a hydrogen source. Recently, we reported a coordinatively unsaturated ruthenium complex containing an N,N'-bidentate coordinating pyridinium amidate (PYA) ligand as an efficient catalyst for ethanol-based transfer hydrogenation of α,β-unsaturated ketones; however, there was over-reduction and thus loss of sele

Factors Shaping Phenotypic Variation in Thymus saturejoides.

Patterns of plant phytochemical composition vary between populations of any plant species and impact the cultural and economic value of important plant species. Phenotypic outcomes are a combination of genetic, environmental, and human influence. Thymus saturejoides is endemic to Morocco and Algeria and part of a suite of economically important wild plants used to produce essential oils for the global market in the region. Currently, little is known about the human and ecological factors that shape T. saturejoides phenotypic traits. In this paper, we examine the factors that drive phenotypic v

Impact of putrescine on essential oil composition, free polyamines content and expression of related genes (DXR and TPS2) in Thymus daenensis under drought stress.

BACKGROUND: Thymus daenensis, an aromatic medicinal plant endemic to Iran, produces essential oils rich in thymol and carvacrol, which exhibit potent antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. Drought stress can alter secondary metabolite biosynthetic pathways, potentially enhancing the plant's stress tolerance mechanisms. Polyamines (PAs), particularly putrescine (Put), are known to mitigate drought-induced damage by modulating stomatal conductance, enhancing osmotic adjustment, and regulating oxidative stress responses. This study investigated the effects of exogenous Put on T. daenensis unde

A comparative study on the metal complexes of an anticancer estradiol-hydroxamate conjugate and salicylhydroxamic acid.

Hydroxamic acids bearing an (O,O) donor set are well-known metal-chelating compounds with diverse biological activities including anticancer activity. Since steroid conjugation with a pharmacophoric moiety may have the potential to improve this effect, a salicylhydroxamic acid-estradiol hybrid molecule (E2HA) was synthesized. Only minimal effect of the conjugation on the proton dissociation constants was observed in comparison to salicylhydroxamic acid (SHA). The complexation with essential metal ions (iron, copper) was characterized, since E2HA may exert its cytotoxicity through the binding o

Chemical Composition and Antimicrobial Potential of a Plant-Based Substance for the Treatment of Seborrheic Dermatitis.

Seborrheic dermatitis (SD) is the most prevalent dermatological disease, occurring in up to 50% of newborns, children, and adults around the world. The antibacterial and antifungal resistance contributed to the search for new natural substances and the development of a novel substance based on Melaleuca alternifolia (M. alternifolia) leaf oil (TTO), 1,8-cineole (eucalyptol), and α-(-)-bisabolol. Thus, this work aimed to determine the chemical composition of the novel plant-based substance and to evaluate its antimicrobial activity against standard microorganisms involved in the pathogenesis of

Volatile profiling of cacti: a preliminary assessment of the taxonomic and evolutionary significance of volatile compounds in Cylindropuntia, Grusonia, Consolea, Opuntia, Quiabentia, and Tacinga.

Volatile analyses of cacti have previously been performed on the flowers, fruits, and consumed stems. During our own investigations, we and others have observed that the cut stems of certain species of the Graveolens clade of Cylindropuntia emitted odors similar to those of rancid butter or cyanoacrylate. Some species of Consolea, Opuntia, Quiabentia, and Tacinga were found to produce similar odors. Fresh samples of Cylindropuntia and these other genera were collected, and the volatile compound profiles were analyzed by solid phase micro-extraction gas chromatography mass spectrometry. Linear

Functional Evolution of a Bark Beetle Odorant Receptor Clade Detecting Monoterpenoids of Different Ecological Origins.

Insects detect odors using an array of odorant receptors (ORs), which may expand through gene duplication. How and which new functions may evolve among related ORs within a species remain poorly investigated. We addressed this question by functionally characterizing ORs from the Eurasian spruce bark beetle Ips typographus, in which physiological and behavioral responses to pheromones, volatiles from host and nonhost trees, and fungal symbionts are well described. In contrast, knowledge of OR function is restricted to two receptors detecting the pheromone compounds (S)-(-)-ipsenol (ItypOR46) an
