OBJECTIVE: To investigate a possible association between human T cell leukemia/lymphoma virus type I (HTLV-I) and polymyositis (PM).
METHODS: Sera and muscle biopsy samples from 9 Jamaican PM patients were compared with specimens from American HTLV-I-positive PM patients and normal controls. BACKGROUND: In previous work, we introduced a concept, a mathematical model and its computer realization that describe the interaction between bacterial and phage type RNA polymerases, protein factors, DNA and RNA secondary structures during transcription, including transcription initiation and termination. SETTING: Kuma Hospital, which specializes in thyroid diseases, in Kobe, Japan.
SUBJECTS: 24 patients with Graves disease who had methimazole-induced agranulocytosis diagnosed by peripheral granulocyte counts of less than 0.5 x 10(9)/L, and 68 patients with Graves disease treated with methimazole, who were free from agranulocytosis. Distribution of various types of genital human Papillomavirus (HPV) in smears from histologically classified cervical lesions was determined by hybrid capture assay (HCA) and was compared with a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) system using general primers (GP) in first and type specific primers (TS) in a second step.
