Dental pulp has the ability of repair/regeneration. Indirect pulp therapy (IPT) is recommended for pulp preservation in asymptomatic teeth with extremely deep caries as well as teeth with clinical symptoms of reversible pulpitis. In this case study, we performed IPT with calcium enriched mixture (CEM) cement on a symptomatic permanent molar. After clinical/radiographic examinations the tooth was diagnosed with irreversible pulpitis and associated apical periodontitis. IPT involved partial caries removal, the placement of CEM cement pulp cap and overlying adhesive permanent restoration. At the

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this experimental study was to assess the outcome of direct pulp capping with mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) after complete excavation of caries in permanent dentition with a 2-visit treatment protocol.
METHODS: Sixty-four teeth with deep carious lesions were consecutively selected. The mean age of the patients was 36.1 ± 15 years. An initial diagnosis of deep caries, with no irreversible pulp involvement, was made. Excavation of caries was performed under a rubber dam and operating microscope magnification. White MTA was applied, and a provisional restoration was p

Mineralized enamel and dentin provide protection to the dental pulp, which is vital tissue rich with cells, vasculature, and nerves in the inner tooth. Dental caries left untreated threaten exposure of the dental pulp, providing facile access for bacteria to cause severe infection both in the pulp and systemically. Dental materials which stimulate the formation of a protective dentin bridge after insult are necessary to seal the pulp chamber in an effort to maintain natural dentition and prevent pulpal infection. Dental materials to date including calcium hydroxide paste, mineral trioxide aggr

INTRODUCTION: This article describes an apexogenesis report of an 8-year old boy referred to our clinic 4 weeks after an impact trauma to the maxillary left central incisor that caused a complicated crown fracture and pulpal exposure.
METHODS: In the radiographic examination, the tooth was observed to be immature. After access cavity preparation, cervical pulpotomy was performed, and the remaining pulp was capped with calcium enriched mixture (CEM) cement. The crown was restored by using the fractured incisal segment on the next day.
RESULTS: The radiographic and clinical examinations on the

Bioactive glass (BAG) is a widely researched biomaterial in medical science. Renowned for its exceptional biocompatibility and excellent biosafety profile, it has been extensively utilized in clinical practice, especially in the repair and regeneration of bone and soft tissue. In recent years, biomaterials researchers have intensified their exploration of BAG within dental medicine, spanning prosthodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and periodontology. Consequently, BAG has found increasing applications in oral medical products, including pulp capping agents, periodontal restoration, roo

BACKGROUND: Since cases of deep caries lesions may result in dental extraction due to any absence of endodontic services, and considering the advantages of conservative treatment, partial caries removal can be a viable alternative to the treatment of these lesions.
CASE REPORT: During the clinical examination, generalised caries lesions were observed in a 6-year-old boy. In the maxillary right first permanent molar (tooth 16), without sensitivity to percussion and/or spontaneous pain, partial caries removal of deep caries was performed being careful to avoid pulpal exposure, followed by cappi

AIM: The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the response of the pulp of primary pig teeth after capping with beta-tricalcium phosphate (ss-TCP), white mineral trioxide aggregate (WMTA), white Portland cement (WPC) and calcium hydroxide [Ca(OH)(2)].
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Forty teeth of two 3-month old pigs were capped with these materials. Three weeks later, the animals were killed and the specimens were prepared for histological examination and evaluation of inflammatory cell response, tissue disorganization, hard tissue formation and bacteria presence was performed. The data c

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the pulpal responses following direct pulp capping of mechanically exposed teeth with new dentine adhesive systems, in the preclinical model of dog teeth.
METHODS: Class V cavities (approximately 2.50 mm wide, 3.00 mm long, 1.5-2.0 mm deep) were prepared on the buccal surface of permanent maxillary and mandibulary molars, two rooted premolars, canines and third incisors. The cavities were assigned to five experimental groups, representing one control group treated with a Ca(OH)2-based material and four experimental groups where the adhes

PURPOSE: To systematically evaluate the available evidence regarding contemporary management of deep caries in vital primary teeth. This review was carried out to facilitate the development of European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry (EAPD) guidelines on deep caries management of primary teeth in paediatric dentistry.
METHODS: A systematic electronic literature search was conducted to locate studies reporting on interventions and medicaments used for the treatment of deep caries in vital primary teeth. To facilitate this, the Cochrane Library (1992 to up to December 6th, 2020), MEDLINE (PubMe

The prognosis for pulpotomy of primary molars with calcium hydroxide as wound dressing was evaluated clinically and radiographically. Thirty-three primary mandibular molars were amputated under the following conditions: (1) chronic coronal pulpitis, (2) the amputation was done with diamond instruments and a high-speed machine under aseptic conditions, and (3) application of calcium hydroxide in contact with the wound surface. After 1 year the treatment was regarded as successful for 22 of the teeth (67%); 11 teeth showed internal dentin resorption. After 2 years the frequency of success, allow

Dentin hypersensitivity commonly occurs due to opened dentinal tubules for many reasons. In our previous study, copine 7 (CPNE7) could induce dentin formation for an indirect pulp-capping model in vivo. This study aims to investigate the formation of tertiary dentin when CPNE7 is applied to intentionally exposed dentin with nothing over it in vivo, whether it affects microleakage of the teeth, and the penetration ability of CPNE7 molecules through dentinal tubules in vitro. Cervical dentin areas of 6 maxillary incisors of 5 beagles were exposed to a class V-like lesion, and 1 side of 3 maxilla

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: We have developed and investigated the partially-stabilized cements (PSC) with Zn for vital pulp therapy due to their short setting time and high cell biocompatibility. However, the effect of PSC with different concentrations of Zn on setting time and biocompatibility remained unknown. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine the optimal concentration of Zn to be synthesized with PSC for vital pulp therapy.
METHODS: PSC with different weight percentages of Zn (5%, 7%, 10%) were synthesized to attain 5%Zn-PSC, 7%Zn-PSC, and 10%Zn-PSC. The initial and final sett

AIM: The purpose of this study was to evaluate clinically and radiographically pulpotomies carried out under intrapulpal injection of anaesthetic solution.
METHODOLOGY: Forty-one permanent mandibular molar teeth presenting with deep carious lesions and/or exposed pulps, with or without periapical changes on radiographic examination, were treated with pulpotomy and dressed with calcium hydroxide. The teeth were divided into three groups. Group A consisted of 15 teeth, where intrapulpal anaesthesia was administered by a slow injection of lidocaine hydrochloride 2%. Group B, with 14 teeth, where
