The most common sites of bursitis are articulations, such as the elbows and knees; it rarely occurs in the head and neck or in non-articulation sites. A report of bursitis in the anterior tibial region, a nonarticulation site, during a flare-up of atopic dermatitis (AD) led us to suggest an association between atopic dermatitis and bursitis. We report the case of a 42-year-old man with severe AD and rare bursitis of the mandible, a nonarticulation site. He underwent several resections of his bursitis but repeatedly recurred. We treated him simultaneously with surgical treatment of his bursitis

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that poses a serious threat to human physical and mental health. Its main clinical features include itching, lichenification, and dry skin. The etiology of AD is not yet fully understood, and its pathogenesis is only partially elucidated. An increasing body of evidence suggests that this refractory disease is associated with epigenetic alterations, including specific modifications in immune cells and keratinocytes that play a key role in the pathogenesis of AD. The latest advances in epigenetic research have provided new insights in

Atopic dermatitis (AD) may be associated with other diseases that could impact the patient's overall health. The aim of this study was to assess the comorbidities observed in patients diagnosed with AD and psoriasis compared to healthy patients. Patients aged 18 and older were recruited using the medical databases of dermatology clinics. Initially, 378 patients were selected via an analysis of the International Classification of Diseases - tenth revision (ICD-10) codes. Ultimately, 231 patients with atopic dermatitis were included in the study group based on their fulfillment of the Hanifin an

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is one of the main risk factors for infants in the development of food allergy. Oral immunotherapy (OIT) in early childhood has been found to be highly effective and safe in preschoolers with and without AD, especially in young infants. Delays in initiation of OIT in infants and children due to uncontrolled AD risk expansion of the number of foods children develop allergy to through unnecessary avoidance of multiple foods. Parents and caregivers may attribute eczema flares to OIT doses, which physicians usually ascribe to non-food triggers such as weather changes, psycho

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a prevalent inflammatory skin disease having a significant impact on patients' quality of life. Conventional treatments, including topical therapies and systemic immunosuppressants, often have limited efficacy and long-term safety concerns. Emerging biologic therapies target specific immune pathways implicated in AD pathogenesis, offering new therapeutic options in a disease known for its complex immune pathomechanisms. This review focuses on novel biologics under investigation, particularly those targeting specific immune pathways such as interleukin-4 (IL-4), IL-13,

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease of very high prevalence, especially in childhood, with no specific treatment or cure. As its pathogenesis is complex, multifactorial and not fully understood, further research is needed to increase knowledge and develop new targeted therapies. We have recently demonstrated the critical role of NAD+ and poly (ADP-ribose) (PAR) metabolism in oxidative stress and skin inflammation. Specifically, we found that hyperactivation of PARP1 in response to DNA damage induced by reactive oxygen species, and fueled by NAMPT-derived NAD+, mediate

The skin, the outermost layer of the human body, is exposed to various external stimuli that cause inflammatory skin reactions. These external stimulants trigger external epithelial cell damage and the release of intracellular substances. Following cellular damage or death, intracellular molecules are released that enhance tissue inflammation. As an important substance released from damaged cells, the S100 protein is a low-molecular-weight acidic protein with two calcium-binding sites and EF-hand motif domains. S100 proteins are widely present in systemic organs and interact with other protein

Managing atopic dermatitis (AD) in patients with skin of color presents unique challenges for the clinician. There is increasing evidence that AD has higher prevalence, persistence, and severity among skin of color populations. This is likely to be partly related to differences in living conditions and exposure to irritants and allergens, among other factors. Assessment of AD severity in patients with darker skin can be challenging, in particular the assessment of erythema, leading to the potential for underscoring AD severity. Variations in disease have also been described, with the potential

BACKGROUND: Atopic dermatitis is a common, chronically recurring inflammatory skin disease. It gives rise to a high disease burden and is of major importance in social medicine.
METHODS: This review is based on pertinent publications retrieved by a selective search in PubMed, including the current German and European guidelines.
RESULTS: Basic therapy with drug-free topical agents markedly improves the barrier function of the skin. Adults should apply at least 250 g per week. Patient-specific trigger factors such as allergens, stress, microbial pathogens, or skin irritants should be eliminat

BACKGROUND: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is ranked as the third most prevalent skin condition with a worldwide prevalence of 2.4%. Atopic dermatitis is a common form of eczema. It develops in infancy or childhood and continues into adulthood with symptoms ranging from mild to severe. Pruritis and inflammation are the hallmark symptoms of AD.
MECHANISM OF ACTION, PHARMACODYNAMICS, AND PHARMACOKINETICS: Abrocitinib is a JAK1 selective inhibitor; inhibition results in a decreased interleukin (IL) 4 activation and decreased pruritis in a patient with AD. Abrocitinib is hepatically metabolized by multip

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common, heterogeneous, inflammatory skin disorder characterized by chronic or relapsing eczematous lesions with intense pruritus and discomfort. Affected patients often experience significant impairment in their quality of life, and the treatment of moderate-to-severe AD forms remains challenging. In the past few decades, increasing knowledge on the AD pathogenesis has driven the development of novel targeted therapies. Interleukin (IL)-13 plays a central and pleiotropic role in AD pathogenesis, contributing directly or indirectly to epidermal barrier disfunction, t

Atopic dermatitis, despite its relatively wide distribution and low severity, was statistically often a disqualification condition for military service. The aim of our study is to determine correlations between characteristics of atopic dermatitis in military personnel. 144 people with atopic dermatitis were under our observation, 78 of them military personnel, 26 military family members and 40 civilians, 62 men and 82 women. We studied the following characteristics: gender, age, marital status, education, social status, place of service location, genetic anamnesis, recurrence during the year,

Background: The treatment of chronic refractory moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (AD) has traditionally relied on broad-spectrum systemic anti-inflammatory agents. With the introduction of biologics and Janus kinase inhibitors (Jakinib), the step management of moderate-to-severe AD is rapidly changing; however, guidelines have yet to provide formal recommendations for how to best incorporate these agents into the treatment plan. Objective: To summarize the updated evidence-based medical treatment for AD, including a proposed position for biologics and Jakinibs in the treatment algorithm. M

Tralokinumab (tralokinumab-ldrm) [Adbry™ (USA); Adtralza® (EU)], a human IgG4 monoclonal antibody that binds specifically to interleukin (IL)-13, is an effective and generally well tolerated treatment option for adult patients with moderate to severe atopic dermatitis who are candidates for systemic therapy. In pivotal phase III trials, subcutaneous tralokinumab improved the clinical signs and symptoms of atopic dermatitis as well as quality of life (QOL). In ECZTRA 1 and 2, tralokinumab monotherapy was superior to placebo in the first 16 weeks of treatment, with improvements in pruritus and s

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is an itchy, non-contagious relapsing and chronic inflammatory skin disease that usually develops in early childhood. This pathology is associated with food allergy, allergic asthma, allergic rhinitis and anaphylaxis which may persist in adulthood. The underlying mechanisms of AD (endotypes) are just beginning to be discovered and show a complex interaction of various pathways including skin barrier function and immune deviation. Immune reactions to self-proteins (autoantigens) of the skin have been identified in patients with inflammatory skin diseases, such as chronic
