Dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced colitis in mice is characterized by polymorphonuclear neutrophil (PMN) infiltration into the colonic mucosa and lumen. We investigated therapeutic efficacy of rebamipide using dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) induced colitis model in rats. Three percent DSS solution was given to rats for 9 days. After that, we evaluated the drug efficacy on colitis sustained with continuous drinking of 1% DSS. Twice-daily treatment with 0.3% or 1% rebamipide for 14 days significantly ameliorated the stool abnormality in the colitis model, preferentially suppressed hematochezia. BACKGROUND: Myocardial function is altered by many factors present in hemorrhaged and resuscitated animals. The purpose of this study was to determine whether resuscitation after a short period of hemorrhagic shock, which by itself did not alter intrinsic cardiac function, causes dysfunction.
METHODS: Guinea pigs were instrumented to measure blood pressure and cardiac output, and several days later 50% of their blood volume was removed at a rate of 1 mL/min. Some animals were resuscitated with the shed blood and some with 6% dextran. Hearts were studied 1 or 24 hours after resuscitation.

Several lines of evidence suggest that ulcerative colitis could be caused by excessive bacterial production of H2S in the colon. BACKGROUND: To prospectively evaluate the efficacy of the saline dextran extraction method in the human cytomegalovirus (CMV) pp65 antigenemia assay (Ag-pp65).
MATERIAL AND METHODS: In a 2 months period we studied all the blood samples from immunodepressed patients. The extraction of leukocytes polymorphonuclear (LPMN) was obtained with a 6% dextran solution in 0.9% saline. BACKGROUND: We previously have shown that extracellular preservation solutions provide superior pulmonary protection after 18 hours of cold ischemia at 4 degrees C in an isolated, whole-blood-perfused, rabbit lung model. We also reported that the addition of 20% whole blood to a low-potassium dextran solution (BLPD) conferred no discernible advantage over low-potassium dextran (LPD) alone in this same model. Fifteen extracted molars were prepared for crowns. Crowns with access ports (one facial, one lingual) were cast in gold. Teeth and crowns luted with provisional cement with filters inserted into the ports were immersed in a solution of labeled macromolecules (FITC-dextran, TRITC-LPS) and evaluated for leakage.
