Hearing loss is the most common sensory disorder with ~466 million people worldwide affected, representing about 5% of the population. A substantial portion of hearing loss is genetic. Hearing loss can either be non-syndromic, if hearing loss is the only clinical manifestation, or syndromic, if the hearing loss is accompanied by a collage of other clinical manifestations. Usher syndrome is a syndromic form of genetic hearing loss that is accompanied by impaired vision associated with retinitis pigmentosa and, in many cases, vestibular dysfunction. It is the most common cause of deaf-blindness.

In an attempt to develop an animal model of immune mediated Meniere's disease, we have injected lipopolysaccharide (LPS) directly into scala media of guinea pigs and monitored functional and morphological changes over a period of 6 weeks. CONCLUSION: The present study confirms a correlation between chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency (CCSVI) diagnosis and Ménière's disease (MD). CCSVI could be considered a new ultrasound vascular pattern of the cerebrospinal venous system in patients affected by definite MD. Patients with craniofacial anomalies often present to doctors due to their noticeable disfigurement and are routinely assessed by otolaryngologists for hearing evaluation. However, small percentage of craniofacial anomaly patients may present with delayed speech though they may not have initial obvious external deformation. The objective of case series is to identify the congenital inner ear malformation. CONCLUSION: The expression of sirtuin in vestibular end organs and cochlea responds differently to age-related changes. Down-regulation of SIRT1, 3, and 5 in the cochlea may weaken the protective activity regarding degeneration of the organ of Corti as well as of spiral ganglion cells, resulting in the development of age-related hearing loss. An increase in SIRT 1, 4, or 5 in vestibular tissue could indicate an increased need of detoxification of reactive oxygen species and an increased anti-ageing potential.
