"When you've been living in darkness, the light suddenly becomes frightening" - prisoners' experiences of health promotion in a Norwegian prison.

PURPOSE: A settings-based approach to health promotion emphasizes everyday environments in shaping health. Prisons are, therefore, potentially important arenas for health promotion. However, the inherent restriction of prisoner agency presents a fundamental challenge in this regard. There is a gap in qualitative research on prisoners' perspectives on health-related topics and a need for greater understanding of health promotion within prisons. This study aims to explore male prisoners' experiences of a Norwegian low-security prison as a setting for health promotion. DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROAC

Evaluating the risk of Clostridioides difficile infection from toilet flushing: a quantitative microbial risk assessment and implications for infection control.

BACKGROUND: Despite stringent infection control measures, Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) remains a challenge in healthcare settings, partly due to overlooked transmission vectors such as toilet plume bioaerosols. AIM: To systematically quantify the risks associated with CDI transmission via toilet flushing and provide critical insights to inform CDI preventive strategies. METHODS: Impaction sampling was used to quantify airborne C. difficile post-flush and high-contact surfaces were swabbed to assess contamination levels, in a controlled toilet environment. A quantitative microbial

The 24, 2 hours initiative: a game changer in malaria mortality reduction.

Malaria is the largest contributor to morbidity and mortality in Uganda. Severe malaria accounts for 15-20% of hospital admissions and an average of 6% of malaria cases were hospitalized in 2023. Delayed treatment of uncomplicated malaria cases is a major contributor to disease progression to severe form that may result in complications or death. The '24,2 Hours Initiative" highlights the need for timely access to and use of quality-assured case management services to maximize impact within the critical "golden" timeframe. It aimed at ensuring that uncomplicated malaria cases receive treatment

The manipulation of minds:reckoning with the legacy of the american post 9/11 torture program.

In this article, we argue that the government's post 9-11 torture program was a big lie, in that the designers, executors and enablers knew all along that torture does not elicit reliable information. We review the government's own research on the matter, and we discuss the ways in which methods known to be unreliable were implemented, most saliently at the detention facility at Guantánamo Bay. We review the secrecy and propaganda surrounding the scope and horror of the torture program at Guantánamo and black sites around the world, and the painful truth of how the government knowingly adopted

ESHRE survey results and good practice recommendations on managing chromosomal mosaicism.

STUDY QUESTION: How should ART/preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) centres manage the detection of chromosomal mosaicism following PGT? SUMMARY ANSWER: Thirty good practice recommendations were formulated that can be used by ART/PGT centres as a basis for their own policy with regards to the management of 'mosaic' embryos. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: The use of comprehensive chromosome screening technologies has provided a variety of data on the incidence of chromosomal mosaicism at the preimplantation stage of development and evidence is accumulating that clarifies the clinical outcomes after

Collaborative care for the detection and management of depression among adults receiving antiretroviral therapy in South Africa: study protocol for the CobALT randomised controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: The scale-up of antiretroviral treatment (ART) programmes has seen HIV/AIDS transition to a chronic condition characterised by high rates of comorbidity with tuberculosis, non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and mental health disorders. Depression is one such disorder that is associated with higher rates of non-adherence, progression to AIDS and greater mortality. Detection and treatment of comorbid depression is critical to achieve viral load suppression in more than 90% of those on ART and is in line with the recent 90-90-90 Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) target
