Acceptance of a smartwatch-based clinical monitoring system in haemodialysis: A multicentre pilot implementation study of patients and nursing staff using an extended technology acceptance model.

Smartwatch-based monitoring prototypes may support future haemodialysis care, but their implementation requires prior assessment of acceptability and feasibility. This study analysed acceptance of a clinical smartwatch designed to monitor physiological variables and support symptom communication among patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing haemodialysis, comparing patients and nursing staff through an extended Technology Acceptance Model. This was a multicentre pilot implementation study with a quantitative design based on an extended Technology Acceptance Model. A total of 137 partic

Sustained delirium reduction in an inpatient neuroscience unit.

BACKGROUND: Delirium is described as acute brain dysfunction that often fluctuates throughout the day and is highly prevalent in hospitalized adults. Delirium negatively affects patient outcomes with consequences including decreased cognitive functioning and increased mortality and healthcare costs. Furthermore, neurological patients are at increased risk for developing delirium due to their underlying diagnoses. PURPOSE: The purpose of this evidence-based practice project was to evaluate the long-term impact of nursing education and use of trained volunteers to prevent the development of del

Building, Recruiting and Retaining the Hospital Nursing Workforce: An International Policy-Oriented Narrative Review of Workforce Pipeline Interventions (2016-2026).

BACKGROUND: Acute care nursing shortages reflect constraints in education, recruitment and retention. Transparent synthesis is needed to distinguish tested interventions from plausible workforce strategies. AIM: To synthesise 2016-2026 evidence on building, recruiting and retaining the hospital nursing workforce and interpret it for nursing and health policy. METHODS: MEDLINE/PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, Scopus and Web of Science were searched on 21 February 2026. Both authors independently screened records and assessed full texts. FMI charted characteristics, and GS verified entries against repo

Return of bowel sounds indicating an end of postoperative ileus: is it time to cease this long-standing nursing tradition?

UNLABELLED: Evidence and rationale supporting return of bowel sounds as an unreliable indicator of the end of postoperative ileus after abdominal surgery are provided. INTRODUCTION: A loss of gastrointestinal motility, commonly known as postoperative ileus (POI), occurs after abdominal surgery. Since the 1900s, nurses and other clinicians have been taught to listen for return of bowel sounds to indicate the end of POI. Evidence-based nursing literature has challenged this long-standing traditional nursing practice. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to provide evidence from a randomized …

Designing an antimicrobial stewardship curriculum for nurses to strengthen knowledge and clinical practice.

BACKGROUND: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a public health threat. Antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) provides a promising solution to mitigate AMR risk. Despite the recognition of AMS interventions, educational curricula tailored to nurses are scarce. This study aimed to develop an evidence-based nursing AMS curriculum. METHODS: A descriptive design study used combined approach to guide the development of an AMS curriculum for nurses working at the Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs using Kern's six-step framework and shared governance model. We have provided the detailed steps and co…

Application of XR in nursing skills training for nurses and nursing students: A scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Proficient nursing skills are essential for patient safety, yet limited clinical resources restrict hands-on training for nursing students and nurses. As a promising technical tool, extended reality (XR) holds great potential for nursing skills training, though a comprehensive synthesis of its applications, outcomes and barriers remains lacking. OBJECTIVE: This scoping review aimed to map the applications of XR in nursing skills training, summarize training outcomes and barriers, evaluate outcomes using the Kirkpatrick Model, and describe their use across the three XR modalities.

Improving Access To Substance Use Disorder Care In Nursing Facilities.

The population of aging patients with substance use disorder (SUD) requiring care in nursing facilities is growing, yet these facilities are not sufficiently prepared to provide evidence-based treatment for such conditions, including opioid use disorder. Policy and practice innovations are needed to address barriers to access and care within these settings. This article provides an overview of the regulatory landscape and reviews existing efforts to improve the uptake of care for SUD in US nursing facilities, including educational and technical assistance programs; policy toolkits; state-based

Exploring Nursing Interventions for Depression Management in Patients with Cancer: A Scoping Review.

INTRODUCTION: Cancer diagnosis, which is linked to a poor prognosis, frequently triggers significant patient distress. This distress can culminate in depression and reduce quality of life (QoL), impacting patient outcomes and elevating cancer mortality rates. This study aimed to explore which nursing interventions for depression management among cancer patients have been assessed and their related outcomes for all types of cancer. METHODS: A scoping search was conducted from 2018 to 2023 across the four databases. Of the initial 549 studies identified, 34 met the inclusion criteria after elim

Knowledge Gaps in Pain Management Between Nurses and Nursing Assistants in a Tertiary Hospital in Colombia.

BACKGROUND: Pain is a universal human experience and a persistent challenge for health services. Its assessment and management require evidence-based competencies to ensure safe, person-centered care. In most health systems, patients with pain are cared for by both nursing professionals and nursing assistants depending on staff allocation, with assistants performing some delegated interventions. Previous studies have identified knowledge gaps among nursing personnel that may affect the quality of care. PURPOSE: compare the level of knowledge between nursing professionals and nursing assistant

A Technology Intervention for Nurses Engaged in Preventing Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections.

Catheter-associated urinary tract infections account for 40% of healthcare-acquired infections. This study explored the addition of cloud-based software technology to an established nursing quality improvement program to reduce catheter-associated urinary tract infections. Unit-based nurse champions evaluated peers' evidence-based catheter-associated urinary tract infection prevention practices using manual, paper-based feedback. That process achieved reduced rates of catheter-associated urinary tract infection over 18 months. However, it was resource intensive. Cloud-based software technology

Early nursing interventions in post-stroke neurological rehabilitation: a comprehensive review of evidence predominantly from high-resource settings.

Stroke remains a leading cause of death and acquired long-term disability worldwide, and the earliest days after onset frequently shape the safety, intensity, continuity, and person-centeredness of subsequent rehabilitation. Early rehabilitation is delivered by interprofessional teams, within which nurses make a distinctive contribution through continuous surveillance, repeated bedside implementation of agreed plans, prevention of avoidable complications, and coordination across shifts and settings. This comprehensive review synthesizes contemporary evidence relevant to early nursing contribut

Dysphagia screening among stroke patients in a tertiary hospital: a best practice implementation project.

OBJECTIVES: The study aimed to promote nurses' compliance with best practices for dysphagia screening in patients with stroke. INTRODUCTION: Dysphagia can significantly increase the risk of complications, especially aspiration pneumonia, leading to increased risk of disability, death, and high medical expenses. Dysphagia screening can reduce aspiration risk and is recommended as a crucial step in dysphagia management; however, not all patients with stroke undergo dysphagia screening in the neurology ward. METHODS: The JBI Evidence Implementation Framework was used in this study. A baseline a
