Cross-domain evaluation and fine-tuned adaptation of iCatcher+ for Korean infant gaze data.

This study evaluates the cross-domain generalisability of three iCatcher+ gaze classification models on a dataset of Korean infants. Applying the pretrained models to the Korean dataset resulted in a substantial decline in accuracy across all models. Performance was systematically modulated by developmental mismatch: accuracy declined as the age distribution of the target dataset diverged from that of the training data. In contrast, experiment-level factors such as stimulus type and temporal progression had limited and model-dependent effects. Fine-tuning the Lookit model on Korean data improv

Aphantasia modulates immersion experience but not eye fixation patterns during story reading.

Story reading is often accompanied with mental visualization of the described scenes and events. Recent findings indicate that individuals who report not experiencing any visual imagery (a condition called aphantasia), also report being less absorbed and engaged when reading stories. In the present study, we explored how aphantasics (n = 8) and controls (n = 20) read imagery-rich stories. We recorded eye movements while participants were reading two short stories and analyzed fixation patterns in relation to the stories' imagery content. We observed that imagery content influenced gaze fixatio

On utilizing gaze behavior to predict movement transitions during natural human walking on different terrains.

Human gaze behavior is crucial for successful goal-directed locomotion. In this study we explore the potential of gaze information to improve predictions of walk mode transitions in real-world urban environments which has not been investigated in great detail, yet. Using a dataset with IMU motion data and gaze data from the Pupil Labs Invisible eye tracker, twenty participants completed three laps of an urban walking track with three walk modes: level walking, stairs (up, down), and ramps (up, down). In agreement with previous findings, we found that participants directed their gaze more towar

Integration of Eye-Centered and Landmark-Centered Codes in Frontal Eye Field Gaze Responses.

The visual system is thought to separate egocentric and allocentric representations, but behavioral experiments show that these codes are optimally integrated to influence goal-directed movements. To test if frontal cortex participates in this integration, we recorded primate frontal eye field activity during a cue-conflict memory delay saccade task. To dissociate egocentric and allocentric coordinates, we surreptitiously shifted a visual landmark during the delay period, causing saccades to deviate by 37% in the same direction. To assess the cellular mechanisms, we fit neural response fields

Effect of feedback and target size on eye gaze accuracy in an off-screen task.

PURPOSE: Eye gaze interfaces have been used by people with severe physical impairment to interact with various assistive technologies. If used to control robots, it would be beneficial if individuals could gaze directly at targets in the physical environment rather than have to switch their gaze between a screen with representations of robot commands and the physical environment to see the response of their selection. By using a homogeneous transformation technique, eye gaze coordinates can be mapped between the reference coordinate frame of eye tracker and the coordinate frame of objects in t

The clinical significance and electrophysiologic findings of fixation-off and closure of the eyes sensitivity: Data from a prospective unselected population.

PURPOSE: Electroencephalography (EEG) findings related to the eye-closing motion can be defined in two ways: 'sensitivity to eyes closed' (SEC) and 'eye closure sensitivity (ECS).' Fixation-off sensitivity (FOS) is a different phenomenon induced by the elimination of central vision/fixation. The purpose of our study was to determine the frequencies of SEC, ESC, and FOS, and to analyze the relationship between eyes closure and the fixation-off phenomenon and clinical importance in an unselected population. METHODS: We prospectively evaluated 200 routine interictal EEGs by adding a standardized

Change in gaze-based attention bias in adolescents with Social Anxiety Disorder.

Although attention bias (AB) toward threat has been associated with Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD), concerns regarding the ability of current measures to detect change in AB following treatment exist. We sought to examine change in bias, as measured via eye-tracking, in adolescents with SAD receiving either attention-bias modification training (ABMT) or attention-control training (ACT). Gaze-based AB was associated (r = -0.361) with symptoms of social anxiety prior to treatment, whereas there was no association between bias as measured via dot probe and social anxiety. Moreover, gaze-based bias

Line of sight of a heterocentric astigmatic eye.

BACKGROUND: The line of sight and the corneal sighting centre are important references for clinical work in optometry and ophthalmology. Their locations are not fixed but may vary with displacement of the pupil and other changes in the eye. PURPOSE: To derive equations for the dependence of the locations on properties of an eye which may be heterocentric and astigmatic. METHODS: The optical model used is linear optics. It allows for the refracting surfaces of the eye to be astigmatic and tilted or decentred. Because the approach is general it applies not only to the natural eye but also to a

Impairment of the binocular coordination of saccades in strabismus.

To examine the link between binocular vision and binocular coordination of saccades we studied subjects with convergent strabismus since childhood with mild or no amblyopia: three subjects had small squint (< 10 prism D) and preserved peripheral binocular visual function with gross stereopsis; four subjects had larger squint (18-35 prism D) and no detectable stereopsis. A standard paradigm was used to elicit horizontal saccades; binocular recordings were made with the IRIS device. For subjects with small strabismus, saccades were disconjugate (unequal between the two eyes) typically by 1 deg.

[Behavior of the other eye in measuring fixation disparity].

In the subjective measurement of FD, the proband fuses contours presented in the peripheral macular areas of both eyes ('fusion lock'). The position of both eyes relative to each other is monitored by means of two haploscopically seen vertical lines presented in the central visual field, one above and one below a binocularly seen horizontal line. The subject is instructed to shift one of the vertical lines horizontally until the two are aligned, while fixating their intersection with the horizontal line. It has recently been questioned whether the foveolae really are pointed at the perceived i

Fixation disparity in binocular stress.

Fixation disparity has been taken as a sign of stress on binocular vision because it is established that prism stress creates fixation disparity. This paper looks at the effect on fixation disparity of the stress caused by requiring subjects to read in inadequate illumination. It is found that the reduction in illumination does not in itself immediately change the magnitude of the fixation disparity. There is, however, an increase in the mean slope of the central part of the fixation disparity curve which suggests that when the effect of reduced illumination is added to prism stress, fixation

The effect on fixation disparity and associated heterophoria of reading at an abnormally close distance.

It is well established that prism stress on binocular vision produces fixation disparity. It is therefore suggested that fixation disparity is a sign of stress on binocular vision. The authors have previously looked at the stress caused by reading in reduced levels of illumination, and found that the average fixation disparity and associated heterophoria become more exophoric. In this paper the effect on fixation disparity and associated heterophoria of reading at an abnormally close distance is reported. It was found that in 50 young adults fixation disparity and associated heterophoria incre

[Development and training of monocular motor control].

Misalignment of the visual axes of the eyes observed in strabismus may result from sensory, motor, and/or central nervous system disorders. The functional properties of a technique designed to increase, through training, the monocular motor control of normal human subjects was evaluated, the ultimate goal being obviously to apply the technique to cases of minor strabismus. The subject is seated in front of a television screen. A diaphragm extending from the subject's head to the screen divides the picture into two visually separated half fields. A micro-computer was programmed to project two p

Internuclear ophthalmoplegia associated with ipsilateral downbeat nystagmus and contralateral incyclorotatory nystagmus.

A case of left internuclear ophthalmoplegia combined with downbeat nystagmus and right incyclorotatory nystagmus on left downward gaze, left exotropia and skew deviation is presented. All signs subsided completely within about 3 months after the onset of the disease. The etiology was possibly of vascular origin. The potential site of the lesion causing these oculomotor signs is discussed.

[Orthophorization. The binocular position of the eyes after a Kestenbaum operation (author's transl)].

Orthophorization is a slow mechanism that compensates disturbances in the binocular eye position. Normal binocular vision is a prerequisite. Because of orthophorization patients who have undergone a Kestenbaum operation for ocular torticollis remain orthophoric postoperatively.

Position matching between the visual fields in strabismus.

The misalignment of visual input in strabismus disrupts positional judgments. We measured positional accuracy in the extrafoveal visual field (1°-7° eccentricity) of a large group of strabismic subjects and a normal control group to identify positional distortions associated with the direction of strabismus. Subjects performed a free localization task in which targets were matched in opposite hemifields whilst fixating on a central cross. The constant horizontal error of each response was taken as a measure of accuracy, in addition to radial and angular error. In monocular conditions, all stim

Investigating unstable fixation in patients with macular disease.

PURPOSE: To assess the effect on visual acuity of compensating fixation instability by controlling retinal image motion in people with macular disease. METHODS: Ten patients with macular disease participated in this study. Crowded and noncrowded visual acuity were measured using an eye tracking system to compensate for fixation instability. Four conditions, corresponding to four levels of retinal image motion, were tested: no compensation (normal motion), partial compensation (reduced motion), total compensation (no motion), and overcompensation (increased motion). Fixation stability and the
