Integrated PET/MRI With 11C-CFT and 18F-FDG for levodopa response difference in Parkinson's disease.

AIM: Parkinson's disease is one of the most common neurodegenerative diseases. Excellent levodopa responsiveness has been proposed as a characteristic supporting feature in substantiating the PD diagnosis. However, a small portion of clinically established PD patients shows poor levodopa response. This study aims to investigate brain function alterations of PD patients with poor levodopa responsiveness by PET/MRI. METHOD: A total of 46 PD patients were recruited. They all completed 11C-CFT PET/MRI scans and the acute levodopa challenge test. Among these 46 PD patients, 42 participants further

Performance of radiomics-based artificial intelligence systems in the diagnosis and prediction of treatment response and survival in esophageal cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis of diagnostic accuracy.

Radiomics can interpret radiological images with more detail and in less time compared to the human eye. Some challenges in managing esophageal cancer can be addressed by incorporating radiomics into image interpretation, treatment planning, and predicting response and survival. This systematic review and meta-analysis provides a summary of the evidence of radiomics in esophageal cancer. The systematic review was carried out using Pubmed, MEDLINE, and Ovid EMBASE databases-articles describing radiomics in esophageal cancer were included. A meta-analysis was also performed; 50 studies were incl

Longitudinal changes in metabolic network activity in early Alzheimer's disease.

INTRODUCTION: The progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD) has been linked to two metabolic networks, the AD-related pattern (ADRP) and the default mode network (DMN). METHODS: Converting and clinically stable cognitively normal subjects (n = 47) and individuals with mild cognitive impairment (n = 96) underwent 2-[18 F]fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) three or more times over 6 years (nscans  = 705). Expression levels for ADRP and DMN were measured in each subject and time point, and the resulting changes were correlated with cognitive performance. The role of

Synaptic Density and Glucose Consumption in Patients with Lewy Body Diseases: An [11 C]UCB-J and [18 F]FDG PET Study.

BACKGROUND: Patients with Lewy body diseases exhibit variable degrees of cortical and subcortical hypometabolism. However, the underlying causes behind this progressive hypometabolism remain unresolved. Generalized synaptic degeneration may be one key contributor. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to investigate whether local cortical synaptic loss is proportionally linked to the magnitude of hypometabolism in Lewy body disease. METHOD: Using in vivo positron emission tomography (PET) we investigated cerebral glucose metabolism and quantified the density of cerebral synapses, as mea

Validation of the 18F-FDG PET image biomarker model predicting late xerostomia after head and neck cancer radiotherapy.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Previously, PET image biomarkers (PET-IBMs) - the 90th percentile standardized uptake value (P90-SUV) and the Mean SUV (Mean-SUV) of the contralateral parotid gland (cPG) - were identified as predictors for late-xerostomia following head and neck cancer (HNC) radiotherapy. The aim of the current study was to assess in an independent validation cohort whether these pre-treatment PET-IBM can improve late-xerostomia prediction compared to the prediction with baseline xerostomia and mean cPG dose alone. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The prediction endpoint was patient-rated moder

Positron emission tomography to detect bone marrow involvement for patients with follicular lymphoma: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Detection of bone marrow involvement (BMI) for patients with follicular lymphoma (FL) is of great significance for staging and treatment. The clinical value of positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) in assessing BMI is still under debate and investigation. PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases were systematically searched to identify studies evaluating PET/CT in detecting BMI in FL patients. Data extraction and quality evaluation were independently conducted by two reviewers, and nine eligible studies were selected as final quantitative analysis. Nin

Structural and metabolic brain correlates of arithmetic word-problem solving in Huntington's disease.

Individuals with pre-manifest and early symptomatic Huntington's disease (HD) have shown deficits in solving arithmetic word-problems. However, the neural correlates of these deficits in HD are poorly understood. We explored the structural (gray-matter volume; GMV) and metabolic (18F-FDG PET; SUVr) brain correlates of arithmetic performance using the recently developed HD-word problem arithmetic task (HD-WPA) in seventeen preHD and sixteen HD individuals. Symptomatic participants showed significantly lower scores in the HD-WPA than preHD participants. Lower performance in the HD-WPA was associ

Sex-specific effects of high-fat diet on rat brain glucose metabolism and early-onset dementia symptoms.

Peripheral metabolic disturbances are associated with a variety of clinical health consequences and may contribute to the development of neurocognitive disorders. This study investigates whether long-term high-fat diet (HFD) consumption changes the brain glucose metabolism and impairs memory performance in a sex-dependent manner. Male and female rats, after weaning, were fed HFD or normal chow diet (NCD) for 16 weeks. Behavioral tests for spatial memory and an 18 F-FDG-PET scan were performed. Also, the expression of brain insulin resistance markers and Alzheimer's pathology-related genes was

Aggressive systemic mastocytosis of colon and lymph node: A case report.

RATIONALE: Mastocytosis is a group of rare neoplastic diseases characterized by monoclonal proliferation of mast cells in the skin or other tissues and organs, including cutaneous mastocytosis and systemic mastocytosis (SM). Mastocytosis can also occur in the gastrointestinal tract, mostly manifested as increased mast cells dispersed in various layers of the intestinal wall; a few may present as polypoid nodules, but rarely as soft tissue mass formation. Pulmonary fungal infections mostly occur in patients with low immune function and have not been reported in the literature as the initial man

[A Case of Secondary Syphilis Mimicking a Penile Cancer with Lymph Node Metastases].

A 42-year-oldman visited our hospital because of gradually worsening penile swelling over 3 weeks. A hard mass on the glans was palpated; however, we were unable to observe it due to severe phimosis. Magnetic resonance imaging of the pelvis revealed enlargement of glans and swelling of bilateral inguinal lymph nodes as both showed a low signal intensity on T2-weightedimaging, a high signal intensity on diffusion-weighted imaging, and a low signal intensity on the apparent diffusion coefficient map. Fluorine- 18-deoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography showed FDG uptake at the external i

68Ga-FAPI and 18F-PET/CT Images in Intestinal Tuberculosis.

A 28-year-old woman presented with abdominal pain, bowel dysfunction, and weight loss for 3 months. 18F-FDG PET/CT revealed multiple hypermetabolic lesions in the intestines and peritoneal thickening/caking with moderate FDG activity. 68Ga-FAPI PET/CT showed intense FAPI uptake in the aforementioned FDG-avid lesions and a larger number of abnormal foci with intense FAPI uptake in the peritoneum than that shown in 18F-FDG images. Endoscopy-guided biopsy from the colonic mucosa was consistent with tuberculosis. The positive findings of 68Ga-FAPI in the current case highlighted that 68Ga-FAPI may
