Comparing perceptions of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) across health care disciplines.

BACKGROUND: Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) has received considerable media attention and is a growing concern for individuals with repeated head injuries. Ebola Knowledge and Attitudes Among Pediatric Providers Before the First Diagnosed Case in the United States.

The 2014 Ebola virus disease outbreak triggered concerns about health-care worker (HCW) readiness. Two hundred and forty-five HCWs at a children's hospital were surveyed. Knowledge scores were lower for nurses than physicians (50-61%, P = 0.001). Despite HCWs lacking Ebola virus disease knowledge, their perceived lack of institutional preparedness and their own lack of training, most HCWs wanted to believe that they would be safe and were willing to provide care.

Health workers' attitudes can create communication barriers.

In Sudan's South White Nile Province the development of a communication strategy for the diarrhoeal disease programme was preceded by the collection of data from community members and health personnel. A majority of health workers had only a limited knowledge of the community's methods of dealing with diarrhoea. Most of these workers had very negative attitudes towards mothers and home interventions. This information was vital for planning a comprehensive educational scheme for both health workers and communities.

"I Would Report It Even If They Have Not Committed Anything": Social Service Students' Attitudes Toward Minor-Attracted People.

This study explores future mental health providers' assumptions about minor-attracted people, using data from a survey of 200 students preparing for entry into social service professions at a public university in the state of Utah. Survey results show that more than half of the students believe clients who identify themselves as pedophiles must be automatically reported to the police, which has implications for providers' understandings about the term "pedophile," as well as their knowledge of guidelines for when clinicians may break client confidentiality. This belief was not significantly af

The Allergies, Immunotherapy, and RhinoconjunctivitiS (AIRS) survey: provider practices and beliefs about allergen immunotherapy.

BACKGROUND: The practices and beliefs of the provider specialties that treat allergic rhinoconjunctivitis (ARC) with allergen immunotherapy (AIT) may vary. METHODS: A telephone survey of 500 randomly selected health care practitioners in 7 specialties, conducted in 2012. RESULTS: AIT was provided as a subcutaneous injection (SCIT) by 91% of allergist/immunologists, 54% of otolaryngologists, and 18% to 24% of other specialties. Otolaryngologists were the most frequent providers of sublingual drops of AIT (SLIT; 33%), compared to 2% to 10% of other specialties. AIT was recommended for adults w

Defining Core Evidence-Based Practice Knowledge for Health Professionals: A Delphi Consensus Study.

RATIONALE, AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: A clearly defined content domain is needed to assess whether health professionals possess the conceptual knowledge required for Evidence-Based Practice (EBP). Existing competency frameworks and assessment instruments often combine knowledge with skills, attitudes and behaviours, limiting the identification of specific knowledge deficits. This study aimed to define the core EBP knowledge domain and obtain content validity evidence for a taxonomy applicable across health professions. METHOD: The study comprised three phases. First, two structured literature revie

Two-phase study to optimise diagnosis and treatment for children and adolescents with tuberculosis in Namibia: knowledge, attitudes and practices of healthcare workers before and after the rollout of updated child and adolescent tuberculosis clinical guidelines.

INTRODUCTION: Child and adolescent tuberculosis (CATB) poses a significant global burden with an estimated 1.25 million diagnoses and 191 000 deaths annually, disproportionately higher than adult rates. Over half of CATB cases remain unreported, and burden increases are expected following the USA's tuberculosis (TB) aid withdrawal, particularly affecting high-burden countries including Namibia. Namibian children under the age of 15 years account for 10% of notified TB cases, with under-reporting suggesting higher actual morbidity and mortality. Through a multistakeholder process in 2024, Namib

Family practice nurse views on barriers to immunising children.

New Zealand (NZ) has low immunisation coverage for infants and children compared to many other westernised countries. Barriers to improving uptake are multifactorial, with health professional knowledge and attitudes identified as important modifiable factors. In NZ practice nurses give most childhood vaccinations in the primary health care setting. This study explored aspects of 150 family practice nurse views, knowledge and experience about immunisation. Qualitative and quantitative text data were obtained through randomised computer assisted telephone surveys and converged using a triangulat

We compared responses across groups by population served (pediatric vs. adult vs. both pediatric and adult MwCF) using chi square/Fisher's exact tests. RESULTS: A total of 297 clinicians completed the survey (41 % pediatric, 36 % adult, 23 % both;
