Diabetic, neuropathic patients are often at risk for ulceration. Those that are temporarily or permanently limited in ambulation and restricted to a supine position are over time very susceptible to heel decubiti. However, because of the concentration of forces through the heel, such solitary bone cysts are usually symptomatic, depending on the proximity to the joint and the size of the cyst and therefore require in most cases surgical treatment. Avoidable delays in the application of weight-bearing lower limb plaster of Paris casts on our patients caused by shortages of the standard walking heels (rockers) made us try the common and always--available foam slippers in their place.
