Pityriacitrin (PIT), produced by Malassezia yeasts, is an UV absorbing substance that might cause hypopigmentation in pityriasis versicolor alba. We aimed to investigate the UV protective effect of PIT in humans using in vitro and in vivo test methods. Spectrophotometry of PIT cream and the vehicle was performed in the wavelength range from 290 to 400 nm. Four patients who had received silicone injections had the following complications: migration, hepatic disease manifested as granulomatous hepatitis (previously undescribed, to our knowledge), hypopigmentation, and death. Tetraploid-diploid mosaicism in humans is exceedingly rare. We present an 11-year-old boy with tetraploid-diploid mosaicism and coexistent hair hypopigmentation with skin hypo- and hyperpigmentation. This case expands the current literature as we are not aware of previous documentation of this unique combination of pigmentary anomalies.

The major objective of this study was to estimate the hypopigmentation function of the essential oil from Vetiveria zizanioides (VZ-EO). Our results indicated that VZ-EO exhibits potent lipid peroxidation inhibitory activity to moderate the bleaching of β-carotene and to maintain the cellular glutathione (GSH) levels.
