An 85-year-old woman with failure to thrive due to poor oral intake was admitted owing to dehydration. A nasogastric (NG) tube was inserted for the initiation of enteral feedings. The tube position was confirmed by gastric auscultation after insufflating air through the tube. A chest X-ray revealed that the NG tube traversed the right main stem bronchus with its tip ending in the right costophrenic angle adjacent to the pleura. No pneumothorax was identified. Infants with hypertrophic pyloric stenosis typically present at 2 to 4 weeks of age with nonbilious projectile vomiting. Hypertrophic pyloric stenosis is exceedingly rare in newborn infants and is scarcely reported in literature. Also, the diagnostic criteria for ultrasonographic measurements in newborn infants have yet to be determined. This report is of a newborn infant with hypertrophic pyloric stenosis. The patient presented with high-volume non-bile-stained output from a nasogastric tube and a dilated gastric bubble on abdominal radiograph. Contrast study ruled out intestinal malrotation.

One method commonly employed to remove percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tubes is to disconnect the internal flange from the rest of the tube at skin level. Various surgical procedures are used for esophageal substitution in children. With the gastric tube (GT) esophagoplasty procedures, main complications in the long term are related to gastric content reflux and acid production from the GT itself. A case of children operated on with a new procedure of isoperistaltic isolated GT interposition with favorable short- and long-term functional results is presented.

We report the case of a 71-year-old woman where nasogastric tube provoked a severe laryngeal injury, revealed by acute respiratory distress. Direct laryngoscopic findings included arytenoid edema, postcricoid ulceration and bilateral vocal cord paralysis in adduction. A tracheotomy was performed. Several months later, no improvement was noted because of a cricoid necrosis. Physiopathology, prophylaxis and management are discussed.

Standard antiulcer regimens that use agents such as intravenous ranitidine (50 mg every 8 h) and/or intragastric antacids (30 ml every 4 h) do not seem to preclude use of pH-sensing feeding tubes in our patient population. The apparent loss of carbamazepine suspension during administration through polyvinyl chloride nasogastric feeding tubes in vitro was studied. Twenty-eight patients with malignant esophageal obstruction had palliative treatment using the Fell endoesophageal tube. The usual plan for these patients, irradiation followed by resection, was not followed because of the presence of tracheoesophageal fistula, celiac or hepatic metastases, or marked debilitation which precluded major operation.
