We investigated the effects of fructooligosaccharides (FO)-feeding on the absorption of iron (Fe), calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg) and on the biochemical parameters in Fe-deficient anemic rats. Fe-deficient anemic rats were made by feeding an Fe-deficient diet for 3 weeks. Then these Fe-deficient rats were fed an experimental diet that contained one of two levels of Fe (15 or 30 mg/kg diet), in the form of ferric pyrophosphate, and one of two levels of FO (0 or 50 g/kg diet) for 2 weeks. After the rats were fed these experimental diets, FO-feeding increased the hematocrit ratio, the concentrat

The content of the microelements (ME) iron, copper and zinc was determined in healthy subjects and patients with iron deficiency anemia (IDA), aged 17 to 86, subdivided into three groups: First group--51 healthy females with iron, copper and zinc levels, close to those reported in literature, the same values used for the control groups. The second group--61 females with IDA had mean copper value higher than the control norms and those of the other authors--23,842 mumol/l (151.48 mkg%). Zinc content in serum was lower than the norm. A parallel determination of serum iron was performed according

Febrile seizure (FS) is the most common seizure disorder in early childhood, affecting approximately 2.0-5.0% of children aged 6-60 months. The peak incidence of FS occurs between 14 and 18 months of age, which coincides with the highest prevalence of iron deficiency anaemia (IDA) in children aged 1-2 years. This study aimed to evaluate the association between iron deficiency and simple febrile seizures. A cross-sectional comparative study was conducted in the Department of Paediatrics, Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, from September 2018 to February 2020. The study included 150 children a

Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) affects approximately one-third of the global population, and conventional treatments often face challenges such as poor absorption and adverse effects. This study investigated the therapeutic potential of Bacteroides ovatus (BO) and its synergistic combination with MIL-101(CuFe) nanozyme for IDA. The results demonstrated that BO significantly enhanced intestinal iron absorption by upregulating the expression of the duodenal iron transporter ZIP14 and ferroportin (Fpn). Concurrently, BO improved iron transport and storage by upregulating the protein expression of h

Vitamins, as essential m icronutrients, are vital for numerous cellular functions and play a key role in maintaining hematological parameter s during pregnancy, including erythropoiesis and processes affecting iron status. Iron-Deficient Gestational Anemia (IDGA), the most common clinicopathological condition in obstetrics and highly prevalent in developing countries, significantly contributes to complications such as hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and gestational diabetes. While it is recognized that vitamin deficiencies impact iron metabolism and erythropoiesis, a complete understanding

UNLABELLED: Hiatal hernia may be accompanied by chronic bleeding from erosions and subsequent iron deficiency anemia. This anemia is drug-resistant in 5-10% of patients with hiatal hernia. In this case, the only approach is antireflux surgery for hiatal hernia repair.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A prospective examination of 42 patients with hiatal hernia and concomitant iron deficiency anemia was conducted between 2023 and 2024. To identify latent iron deficiency anemia, patients underwent in-depth laboratory tests. All patients underwent original fundoplication. The results were assessed in 6 and

RATIONALE: Postpartum iron deficiency anaemia is caused by antenatal iron deficiency or excessive blood loss at delivery and might affect up to 50% of labouring women in low- and middle-income countries. Effective and safe treatment during early motherhood is important for maternal well-being and newborn care. Treatment options include oral iron supplementation, intravenous iron, erythropoietin, and red blood cell transfusion.
OBJECTIVES: To assess the benefits and harms of the available treatment modalities for women with postpartum iron deficiency anaemia. These include intravenous iron, or
