BACKGROUND: Angiosarcoma is rare, and information about its clinical features are limited. Therefore, a large scale study of angiosarcoma was performed in Japan.
METHODS: Through a nationwide Japanese study, 99 cases of angiosarcoma were collected and their clinicopathologic findings were summarized relative to predisposing risk factors.

Eight hundred forty-nine Japanese dentists were asked to record the reason for every tooth extraction of permanent teeth during 1 week in each of four seasons. The reasons were assigned to six groups: dental caries, periodontal disease, eruption problems, trauma, orthodontics and other reasons. Thirty-eight to 40% of the dentists returned the forms in each season, relating to a total of 11,175 extracted teeth. To clarify the factors relating to the prognosis of patients with idiopathic portal hypertension (IPH), we followed 171 patients with IPH until the end of 1990, who were registered in the database among those with abnormal portal circulation as of 1985 in hospitals of Japan. Involuntary movement disorders were investigated in a psychiatric hospital in Japan. The prevalence of tardive dyskinesia was 9.9% and four clinical variants of tardive dyskinesia could be classified. Of the 716 patients, tardive dystonia was identified in 15 cases, tardive akathisia in one, respiratory dyskinesia in two and rabbit syndrome in 17. The existence of tardive forms for acute dystonic reactions and akathisia suggests that any type of acute extrapyramidal symptoms can have a tardive form.

During a 21-year period, 3040 patients with malignant tumors were treated at the Division of Surgery, Fukuyama National Hospital. Of these 86 (2.8%) were diagnosed as having double cancers. The simultaneous double cancer rate was 27.3%. Statistical study showed that the etiology had a relation to family history and previous therapy, but not to immunology. The prognosis was good and diagnosis by RI was non-specific.

This study of autopsy cases in the general population of the town, Hisayama, describes the incidence and severity of aortic and cerebral atherosclerosis in Japan. Atherosclerosis was more severe in the aorta than in the cerebral arteries of all age groups and its disparity became more conspicuous with age. This report presents the findings of an epidemiological study of laryngeal cancer in Japan, based on 6,360 cases treated and registered during the 10-year period from 1960 through 1969. The number of the patients increased 1.5 times from 1960 to 1969. Geographically the absolute number of recorded cases was proportional to the population density; in other words, it was larger in heavily urbanized areas and smaller in rural regions. From 1970 through 1973, blood samples of 7113 attended dogs and 1615 stray dogs in 50 cities of Japan were examined for leptospiral antibodies by RMAT on filter paper specimens.
