Hereditary angioedema (HAE) is caused by complement factor 1 inhibitor (C1-INH) deficiency, and its mode of inheritance is autosomal dominant. We present a case of an 8-year-old patient who required emergency laparotomy after a traffic accident. General anesthesia with tracheal intubation was necessary. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of 1359 patient medical charts submitted to cholecystectomy in hospitalUniversitário Cajuru's general surgery department was done during the period from january 2000 to october 2006.
RESULTS: One thousand and sixty six laparoscopic cholecystectomies were performed, 701 (65.75%) due to chronic cholecystolithiasis, 356 (33.39%) due to acute cholecystolithiasis, seven (0.65%) had gallbladder polyps and two (0.21%) cases had hydropic gallbladder.

We performed 910 laparotomies in the years 1998-1999. Complete dehiscence of a laparotomy wound was observed in 18 cases. We compare the duration of postoperative bowel paralysis in patients with and without eventration. The statistical comparison of the two groups was performed with the Wilcoxon test, the level of significance was set to 5%. We have found that the duration of postoperative bowel paralysis was significantly longer in the group of patients with eventration. (Tab. 4, Ref. 5.).
