We treated nontraumatic ectopia lentis with the irrigation and aspiration method in 30 children and the Keeler/SITE instrument in three. Preoperative visual acuities were 6/21 (20/70) or worse in all patients; postoperatively, visual acuities improved in 29 of the 30 eyes and were 6/18 (20/60) or better in 24 (80%). Four cases of aniridia associated with subluxated lenses and microcornea are presented. The triad occurred in both eyes of the 4 affected members in one Ndebele family (one of the South African Negro tribes). No other ocular or systemic defects were noted, and intelligence was normal. Chromosomal studies on both parents showed no abnormality, and gene marker studies failed to reveal any linkage between the disease locus and a wide range of polymorphic loci.

PURPOSE: To describe the results of the removal of ectopic lenses from patients with Marfan's syndrome using the scleral fixation method.
METHODS: Intraocular lenses (IOLs) were implanted in six eyes affected by lens dislocation (ectopia lentis) using either the scleral fixation method (five eyes) or a silicone IOL in the capsular bag (one eye). Mean patient age ranged from 8-11 years and follow-up ranged from 7-20 months.
RESULTS: Functional success was obtained in all eyes. Postoperative visual acuity was 20/20 to 20/40. One patient showed a dislocation of the IOL in the anterior chamber.

Marfan syndrome is an autosomal dominant connective tissue disorder characterized by skeletal, cardiovascular, and ocular anomalies. Ectopia lentis is the most common ocular manifestation. Foldable acrylic lenses are the most extensively used 'in the bag' monofocal or multifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs) in cataract surgery, toric lenses in astigmatism, and refractive lens exchange surgeries. OBJECTIVE: To compare visual outcomes and complication risk based on the timing of pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) following cataract surgery with retained lens fragments.
METHODS: MEDLINE (Ovid), EMBASE, and Cochrane Library were searched between 2000 to February 2022 for studies comparing visual outcomes and complications based on time to PPV. Discrete outcomes were analyzed using a random-effects meta-analysis model on Review Manager (RevMan 5.4). The certainty of evidence of outcomes was evaluated using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation approach.
