We herein report a patient with breast cancer who developed dermatomyositis (DM) immediately after mastectomy. She had a history of severe drug eruption during neoadjuvant chemotherapy six months previously. Within a month after the operation, myalgia and rash, including Gottron's papules, developed, and skeletal-muscle enzymes elevated, so she was diagnosed with probable DM according to the Bohan and Peter criteria. Nipple-sparing mastectomy is an option for patients fitting oncologic criteria and may improve cosmetic outcomes of breast reconstruction. When anatomical limitations exist, we propose the use of free nipple grafting, akin to reduction mammaplasty. This study is a retrospective review of patients having a nipple-sparing mastectomy and immediate reconstruction using free nipple grafting (N = 36 breasts). Ipsilateral breast tumor recurrence (IBTR) is a risk after breast conserving surgery, and is traditionally treated with mastectomy. The axillary dissection is part of the breast cancer surgical protocol. We have cytologically analyzed the axillary lavage fluid obtained during 67 modified radical mastectomy. Our results showed good correlation between the node status, histological grading and the cytological diagnosis of the axillary lavage fluid. As some other dissemination assessment techniques showed important prognostic value, the cytologic analysis of the axillary lavage fluid also seems to be a prognostic parameter.

Severe gynecomastia with excessive skin is difficult to treat by only periareolar excision or suction-assisted lipectomy or both. Seventy female patients scheduled for elective mastectomy were divided into three groups: Buprenorphine suppository (BPS) 0.4 mg group (n = 29); BPS 0.2 mg (n = 23) group; and control (scopolia extract and tannic acid suppository) group (n = 18). One hundred sixty three prophylactic subcutaneous mastectomies were performed during a six-year period in high-risk situations. All cases were evaluated for immediate surgical complications and followed up for at least five years.
