[The realities and paradoxes in the nephrotic syndrome with minimal glomerular lesions in children].

On the basis of the present knowledge in the nephrotic syndrome with minimum glomerular lesions, the paper reviews the paradoxes of the disease: the glomeruli with normal histologic structure in optic microscopy, but with the highest proteinuria in the whole human pathology; absence of some clear arguments concerning the existence of the immunologic disorders, but the best medication is corticotherapy and immunodepressive drugs; the high incidence of the allergic background against which the nephrotic syndrome appears, but with or without a limited effect of the antiallergic medication. The ab

Do circulating factors play a role in the pathogenesis of minimal change nephrotic syndrome?

This review examines the studies which have been undertaken to test the hypothesis that minimal change nephrotic syndrome of childhood (MCNS) is a primary immune disorder and that there is altered T-cell function which results in release of a circulating factor. This factor alters glomerular permeability, perhaps by modifying charge sites in the glomerular capillary bed, and results in selective proteinuria. The abnormalities in immune function observed in MCNS are summarized, as are the studies of circulating factors which have been identified. Although some agents have been shown to alter ca

Hereditary partial deficiency of the third component of complement associated with minimal change nephrotic syndrome.

We describe a 10 year old patient admitted to the Children's Hospital of Buffalo with hypocomplementemia associated with steroid responsive minimal change nephrotic syndrome. The sibling also had a low serum C3 concentration and all family members studied had C3 slow phenotypes. Factor I levels were at the lower limit of normal in the patient and his brother. Functional assays for CH50, total hemolytic C3 and serum concentration of C2, C4-C9 and factors B and H were all within normal limits. This case confirms that a depressed serum complement level can occur in minimal change nephrotic syndro

Bisalbuminemia in nephrotic syndrome (a case report).

A rare case of bisalbuminemia in a patient with minimal lesion glomerulonephritis (MLGN) in which the course of the disease and therapeutic response to steroid were typical of minimal lesion glomerulonephritis, is presented and literature reviewed.

Minimal mesangial lupus nephritis: a systematic review.

OBJECTIVES: To summarize the clinical presentation, histological features, treatment, and outcome of minimal change nephropathy (MCN) in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). METHODS: We performed a systematic review of cases of MCN in SLE patients reported in the English literature from January 1985 to May 2009 by a Medline search. RESULTS: The estimated prevalence of MCN in biopsy-proven lupus nephritis is 2.3% in childhood and 1.1% in adults. There are 13 individual cases (12 women, one man) of SLE-related MCN reported in the literature. The mean age of nephritis onset was 32.
